Queensland Performing Arts Centre Announces Summer Kids Activities Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is the place to be these June/July school holidays with captivating live arts experiences for children and their families.

The first weekend of the holidays, 30 June and 1 July sees the final two days of the five-day Out of the Box Festival, QPAC's signature biennial festival for children eight years and under.

Out of the Box features a rich arts program, curated to nurture children's creativity and imagination, at a key period in their development and offers an amazing day for little ones across a range of in-theatre performances, workshops, activities and exhibitions.

But the fun doesn't stop at Out of the Box. Two of the Festival's main stage in-theatre shows, The Arrival and Air Play, will continue during the first week of the school holidays from 5-8 July 2018.

The Arrival is a beautiful production recreated with New Zealand's Red Leap Theatre Company and Out of the Box, adapted from the award-winning novel by Shaun Tan, presented in QPAC's Playhouse.

The Arrival follows the story of a man starting a new life amidst the extraordinary inhabitants of his new land. Tan's wordless novel lends itself perfectly to the use of puppetry and physical theatre to tell a story, emphasising the isolating experience everyone feels when arriving in a strange, new place. The beautifully illustrated work is accurately brought to life on stage through breathtaking sets, whimsical puppets and props, as well as a remarkable soundscape.

Like Tan's book, this is an emotionally moving production; a tribute to migrants, refugees and displaced people worldwide. It's a pertinent story of overcoming hardship, of humanity and of hope. The Arrival will touch anyone who has ever had to start anew or bid farewell to a loved one.

Direct from New York, Air Play merges circus and street theatre performance art with sculptural artistry, promising to thrill children and adults alike in QPAC's Concert Hall.

A modern spectacle that brings to life the very air we breathe, Air Play features flying umbrellas, larger-than-life balloons and giant kites floating over the audience. The show also boasts the biggest snow globe you've ever seen which will make you gasp in wonder and laugh until it hurts.
