Black Swan State Theatre Company will present one of the modern era's greatest plays, Anton Chekhov's The Seagull (in a new adaptation by Hilary Bell, by arrangement with the State Theatre Company of South Australia). Playing at Heath Ledger Theatre in the State Theatre Centre of WA from today 9 to Sunday 31 August.

The Seagull written in 1895,and first performed in 1896, follows the romantic conflicts between four characters, namely the famous novelist Boris Trigorin, ingénue Nina Zarechnaya, fading actress Irina Arkadina and her son, symbolist playwright Konstantin Treplev.

The Seagull features international Emmy and AFI Award winning and Golden Globe and BAFTA Award-nominated Greta Scacchi in the role of the celebrated actress Arkadina, making a return visit to Perth where she spent her formative teenage years.

She is joined by her real life daughter Leila George as Nina, veteran actors Andrew McFarlane, Michael Loney (Death of a Salesman) and a local cast, which include Luke McMahon (Shrine) as Konstantin, Rebecca Davis (Other Desert Cities), Greg McNeill (As You Like It), Sarah McNeill (Shrine) and Adam Booth.

Tender and humorous, The Seagull is about the stories we craft out of our dreams and disappointments, about love in all its guises and about artists who behave just like everyone else - only a little bit more so!

Creatives: Directed by Kate Cherry, Set & Costume Designer: Fiona Bruce, Lighting Designer: Jon Buswell, Sound Designer: Ash Gibson Greig, Movement Director: Chrissie Parrott, Assistant Director: Jeffrey Jay Fowler.
