Busselton Hosts FFAB This Weekend

By:

The City of Busselton will host the Fringe Festival of Arts Busselton (or FFAB). This free family festival celebrating art and culture will take place in the Queen Street cultural precinct in March. Running over two days from today, March 14-15, the festival will see the CBD area come alive with performers and artists of all types.

Many artists will be local but others will come from across Australia and overseas bringing their unique and exciting performances to Busselton. This includes classical Shakespeare, outrageous comedy, farcical spoofs, 60s retro psychedelia, story-telling, stand up-comedy, haunting mystery and the deepest tragedy.

During the lighter hours there will be an art market, free family fun, workshops, food, wine and song. The evening program includes a wonderful array of performances featuring Black Swan State Theatre Company, comedian Dave O'Neil, the South West Opera Company and dance legend Chrissie Parrott. There are also more than 20 independent theatre groups fresh from the FRINGE WORLD, including Groovy Boots Theatre and its shows The Adventures of Scrote Man and Pube Boy and Do You Get My Meaning? - and a Guinness world record attempt.

City of Busselton Deputy Mayor Grant Henley said the Fringe Festival of Arts had evolved from earlier community cultural events held in the cultural precinct. "This year, the City has directed more resources into the event, expanded the line-up over two days and engaged a local event organiser from Acting Up [Academy of Performing Arts] to pull it all together," he said. " The festival also provides the perfect opportunity to publicly unveil the first of the Busselton Settlement Art Project sculptures - the Whaler's Wife."
