Eminent artists, friends and peers of this year's five honorees converged in Washington, D.C., on December 4 to present entertaining and heartfelt tributes at the 34th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, an entertainment special to be broadcast tonight on the CBS Television Network with Caroline Kennedy as host for the ninth consecutive year. STAGE TUBE: John Cleese Talks A FISH CALLED WANDA Musical!

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, A Fish Called Wanda is being given musical treatment by original screenwriter John Cleese and his daughter Camilla. Bill Bailey has been recruited to compose.
In an interview with The Hour, Cleese reveals that he has altered the last 20 minutes of the show in the stage version. Of the new plot addition he says: 'So we changed the last 20 minutes completely, they now escape in a helicopter from London Zoo so it's been great fun changing it.' The 2011 Tony Award nominees were announced live from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in New York City on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. The next day, proud nominees gathered at the Millenium Hotel in Times Square to celebrate and meet the press. Broadway Beat was on hand, of course, to speak with all of the proud nominees. In anticipation of Tony night on June 12, 2011, BroadwayWorld will be bringing you new clips of the stars in conversation each week so be sure to check back!
Below, we bring you George C. Wolfe, Best Director of a Play nominee for The Normal Heart. Wolfe gained national recognition with his 1991 musical Jelly's Last Jam, a musical about the life of jazz musician Jelly Roll Morton; after a Los Angeles opening, the play moved to Broadway, where it received 11 Tony nominations and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical. Two years later, Wolfe famously directed Tony Kushner's Angels in America: Millennium Approaches to great critical acclaim, as well as a Tony award. Wolfe also directed the world premiere of the second part of Angels, Perestroika, the following year. Wolfe served as artistic director and producer of the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater from 1993-2004. During his tenure, he created the musical Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk, which won him a second Tony Award for direction. Additional credits include Tony Kushner's Caroline, or Change, The Wild Party, Suzan-Lori Parks' Pulitzer Prize-winning play Topdog/Underdog,and a new translation of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park starring Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, and Austin Pendleton.

Arena Stage begins a new life in its renovated home at the Mead Center for American Theater in Southwest D.C., opening its inaugural season with a classic American musical that similarly embraces life on a new frontier. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! is the first production at the Mead Center and features an all-star cast under the direction of Artistic Director Molly Smith. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! runs October 22-December 26, 2010 in the Fichandler Stage. See below for a look at the production!

On Tuesday, September 7, LIMELIGHT: THE STORY OF Charlie Chaplin opened at the La Jolla's Mandell Weiss Theatre. The production, which has music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and a book by Christopher Curtis and Thomas Meehan, runs through October 17, 2010. The show is directed by Michael Unger and stars Rob McClure and Ashley Brown. BroadwayWorld reporter Audra Stafford recently spoke with Curtis about all things LIMELIGHT and what inspired him to write a musical about the comedic legend.

TV: Robert Foxworth Stars in King Lear at Old Globe

Robert Foxworth plays King Lear and Bruce Turk the Fool in Shakespeare's tragedy, directed by Festival Artistic Director Adrian Noble. The crowns are swapped in Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III, also helmed by Noble, where Miles Anderson will play King George III and Foxworth will play Dr. Willis. The Festival also includes Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew directed by Ron Daniels with Jonno Roberts and Emily Swallow as the two sparring lovers.
