Kinky Boots, the smash-hit musical that brings together four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy® Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Tony® Award-winner for Best Score for Kinky Boots), kicked off its national tour last month in Las Vegas, and it will continue to other United States west coast stops in Tempe, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Costa Mesa before heading east in 2015. The Broadway League and The Coalition of Broadway Unions and Guilds (COBUG) featured special guest performers Andy Karl, Jarrod Spector, Lindsay Mendez and Adam Heller in the sixth annual Broadway Salutes event on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014. Four-time Tony® Award winning playwright and actor Harvey Fierstein was the host. This public celebration honored the countless professionals who have made Broadway great. In this industry-wide celebration, theatre professionals received special recognition for having worked 25, 35, and 50+ years on Broadway. Directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carol King Musical), Broadway Salutes took place at Anita's Way, the public space next to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (West 42nd to West 43rd Streets- between Sixth Avenue and Broadway) located in the heart of the theatre district. Disney Theatrical Productions will present the eagerly anticipated North American tour of Broadway's Tony® Award-winning smash hit musical, Disney's NEWSIES. Rehearsals began on Wednesday, September 3 in New York City in preparation for the first performance on Saturday, October 11 in Schenectady, NY at Proctors. During its first year of touring in the 2014-15 season, the production will play 25 cities, over 43 weeks. The production features Dan DeLuca as 'Jack Kelly', Steve Blanchard as 'Joseph Pulitzer', Stephanie Styles as 'Katherine', Angela Grovey as 'Medda Larkin', Jacob Kemp as 'Davey', Zachary Sayle as 'Crutchie', and Vincent Crocilla and Anthony Rosenthal alternating the role of 'Les.' KINKY BOOTS book-writer Harvey Fierstein was recently challenged to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by KINKY BOOTS composer/lyricist Cyndi Lauper. Not surprisingly, he received a cold surprise when trying to respectfully decline.

The cast of the Tony Award-winning musical NEWSIES took their excited final bows at the Nederlander Theatre today to uproarious applause from a packed audience. NEWSIES featured a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, NEWSIES was directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work. NEWSIES enjoyed almost two and a half years on Broadway.

The hilarious musical La Cage aux Folles, featuring the bawdy humor of Harvey Fierstein and the melodic genius ofJerry Herman, is the final show in the 2014 Music Circus season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 64th season for the venerable Sacramento institution. Today in 1983, La Cage Aux Folles opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1761 performances. With a book by Harvey Fierstein and lyrics and music by Jerry Herman, it is based on the 1973 French play of the same name by Jean Poiret. The original 1983 Broadway production received nine nominations for Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. The success of the musical spawned a West End production and several international runs. The 2004 Broadway revival won the Tony Award for Best Revival, the 2008 London revival garnered the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. The 2010 Broadway revival was nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. La Cage aux Folles is the only musical which has won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical twice and the only show that has won a Best Production Tony Award (Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical) for each of its Broadway productions.

The national tour company of PIPPIN challenged the Broadway cast of NEWSIES to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and the boys have taken them up on their dare. NEWSIES is now challenging Alan Cumming and the Broadway company of CABARET, the Broadway company of MATILDA, and James Iglehart and the cast of ALADDIN. Watch their submission below!

This morning, Nick Jonas debuted his new music video to the first single from his upcoming, yet-to-be titled solo album on Island Records.

Today in 2008, A Catered Affair closed at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it ran for 116 performances. A Catered Affair is a musical with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by John Bucchino. It is based on both the 1956 film The Catered Affair written by Gore Vidal and the original 1955 teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, set in 1953 in the Bronx. John Doyle directed the production, which starred Fierstein, Faith Prince and Tom Wopat.
