The new, off-Broadway production of Rent began previews on, July 14, and opens Thursday, August 11 at New World Stages. The highly anticipated resurrection of the cult classic, written by Jonathan Larson, is being directed by Michael Greif, who directed the show's original off-Broadway and Broadway productions. The creative team includes choreographer Larry Keigwin, music supervisor Tim Weil, set designer Mark Wendland, costume designer Angela Wendt, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Brian Ronan, and projection designer by Peter Nigrini. New York Theatre Workshop presents Peter and the Starcatcher, written by Rick Elice, directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, based upon the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The cast of Peter and the Starcatcher features Adam Chanler-Berat, Christian Borle, and Celia Keenan-Bolger. The company also includes Teddy Bergman, Arnie Burton, Matt D'Amico, Brandon Dirden, Carson Elrod, Kevin Del Aguila, Greg Hildreth, Karl Kenzler, and David Rossmer.
The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, Next to Normal, will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Upon closing, the musical will have played 21 previews and 733 performances. Next to Normal is performed at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th street). Monday, May 17, Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James returned to the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal for a special limited engagement. d'Arcy James was the original 'Dan Goodman' in the Second Stage Theatre off-Broadway production of the acclaimed musical, and took on the role of 'Shrek' in Shrek: The Musical as Next to Normal continued it's development in workshop and at the Arena Stage in Washington D.C.
