BWW Blog: Ed Dixon of Pittsburgh Public Theater's L'HOTEL - Final Rehearsals
by Guest Blogger: Ed Dixon - Nov 19, 2014

Tuesday, November 11 My lifelong friend, Jane Parham arrived in town for the invited dress rehearsaltomorrow and I had lunch with her at Sonoma Grill. Have I mentioned that Sonoma Grill is awesome? So is Jane. We had a marvelous time and then I took her to the theater to see the set. While we were standing there, Zach Moore ran a sound cue, Bizet's Symphony in C… loudly. Both Jane and I burst into tears. Got to introduce her to Ted Pappas who greeted her like an old friend. Good times.

BWW Blog: Ed Dixon of Pittsburgh Public Theater's L'HOTEL - Getting Closer
by Guest Blogger: Ed Dixon - Nov 11, 2014

Tuesday, November 4 Started the day REALLY early with packing. They're moving me to housing right next to the theater. The Pennsylvanian is a lovely place but it's a HIKE and the weather is about to turn cold, so I'm really glad to be getting closer to work. After the move we did some trouble areas of the play and tightened the up considerably. Then I did an interview with Bill O'Driscoll from the City Paper. Forgot to mention, I did interviews with Sharon of the Post-Gazette and Alice Carter from the Tribune last week. Both were very enjoyable. We did a run through in the afternoon and it was the first time the first act had come together. The show is an ensemble piece so almost the entire cast is onstage all the time. This means everyone has to be on their toes ALL THE TIME or cues will be missed. This was the first time everyone kept the ball in the air for the entire first act. The second act wasn't as fortunate… one step at a time.

BWW Reviews: EQUIVOCATION, It's all in the Details and Theatricum Gets Them All Right
by Ellen Dostal - Sep 12, 2014

Throughout two thirds of Bill Cain's political thriller EQUIVOCATION, a confused Shagspeare (known to us otherwise as Shakespeare and played by Ted Barton) keeps asking questions and getting answers that don't make sense. Finally a circumspect Father Garnet (Franc Ross) tells him to look for the question beneath the question and suddenly the pieces of the puzzle start to fall into place.

BWW Reviews: All Aboard the Pain Train in Pittsburgh Public's NOISES OFF

In Michael Frayn's famous meta-farce, you'll laugh, you'll cringe, you'll laugh some more, you'll cringe some more.

BWW Reviews: A Formidable Ellen Geer Becomes LEAR at Theatricum Botanicum
by Ellen Dostal - Jun 14, 2014

A frightening thing happens when a woman plays the title role in a gender-reversed King Lear; the betrayal and revenge between mother and sons takes on an added level of horror. What was already tragic to begin with, as originally written for a father and daughters, now feels even more threatening in the reverse.

BWW Reviews: Groans and Guffaws in THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED) at MRT
by Nancy Grossman - May 6, 2014

The Reduced Shakespeare Company finally tackles the subject of comedy, condensing the complete history (abridged) into a concise two-hour package that doesn't miss a trick. From cavemen to clowns, shtick to Stooges, and Seinfeld to the Supreme Court, there's something for everyone in the myriad sketches offered up by this trio of talented comedians. With the exception of the mention of a few of George Carlin's infamous seven words, THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED) at Merrimack Repertory Theatre is good family entertainment and the kids might even learn to appreciate the pioneers of the art form.
