American Dance Institute (ADI), continuing to find new ways to support contemporary dance artists, will present performances in New York City for the first time this summer, offering five premieres over the course of five weeks at The Kitchen, June 2 - July 2. The third of ADI's New York premieres at The Kitchen will be celebrated choreographer Jane Comfort's You Are Here, June 16-18.

The Steppenwolf saga gets a new treatment in the world premiere of Steppenwolf - a musical retelling. Written and composed by 21-year-old Dutch protege Jochem le Cointre (class of 2016), The first ever staged adaptation of Hermann Hesse's classic novel, originally published in Germany in 1928, the show features a 15-piece chamber orchestra; an ensemble of students from The New School's College of Performing Arts; a cast of New York City actors and singers, including several from The New School's Mannes School of Music, School of Drama, and Lang Theater; and dancers from the renowned Martha Graham Dance Company. Choreography is by Tadej Brdnik, the former principal dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company. Two performances will be staged on May 11 & May 12, 2016 at 7pm at The Auditorium at The New School, 66 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10011. Following a national search, the Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) has appointed Hong Kong native Jenny Wong assistant conductor for a two-year period beginning in May 2016. Wong, who has served as a conducting fellow for the Oregon Bach Festival, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Distinguished Concerts International New York and Hong Kong SingFest, is one of the youngest conductors to win two consecutive World Champion titles at the World Choir Games (China, 2010) and the International Johannes Brahms Choral Competition (Germany, 2011). Currently a D.M.A. candidate in choral conducting at USC Thornton School of Music, where she also completed her M.M. and has taught choral conducting, she has served as Visiting Director of Choral Activities at University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music for the past year.
