FirstWorks brings internationally recognized visual/theater artist and experimental filmmaker Janie Geiser to Providence April 6-12 for a week-long FirstWorks Arts Learning residency to include a series of workshops, artist talks and screenings designed to engage Providence-area K-12 and university students. As part of a FirstWorks co-commissioned project, Geiser and a cross-disciplinary group of students from Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) will combine puppetry and video during a week-long developmental workshop for Geiser's new multidisciplinary work "Fugitive Time".
According to Out.com, music legend Patti LaBelle just attended a performance of Broadway's After Midnight, and will be the next star to join the guest lineup at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Current guest star Vanessa Williams will end her limited run on May 11, and will be followed by Fantasia, who returns on May 13.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will present the fourth annual Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival (PJLIF) on June 20-22, 2014. PJLIF will consist of three days of free jazz and jazz-influenced musical performances on outdoor stages throughout downtown Pittsburgh's Cultural District. PJLIF attracts more than 20,000 attendees from around the country. The Festival features local, emerging, and national and international musicians in a variety of performance settings, including outdoor performance stages and indoor performance locations within local restaurants, coffee shops and galleries.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Christopher Jackson (In the Heights, Memphis, Bronx Bombers) will join the cast of After Midnight from April 5-20. He will replace Everett Bradley, who will depart to be the band leader on the Meredith Vieira Show. Jackson starred in the Encores! version of the show in 2012, when it was titled Cotton Club Parade.

Multi-platinum selling recording artist Natalie Merchant performs a Carnegie Hall Family Concert on Saturday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. Based on Merchant's recent book and music project Leave Your Sleep, the concert features nursery rhymes and lullabies by 19th- and 20th-century poets set to the singer's beautiful melodies, performed by a chamber orchestra and with projected illustrations by renowned artist Barbara McClintock. James Bagwell conducts the performance, which also features musicians from the dynamic chamber music collective Decoda, pianist and accordion player Uri Sharlin, and guitarist Gabriel Gordon. This Family Concert is presented by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute and recommended for children ages 5?10.

After Midnight will donate $5 from each ticket sold for the Tuesday, May 13th performance to the Harlem School of the Arts, now celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle and featuring the big-band sounds of nine-time Grammy Award-winner Wynton Marsalis' Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars, After Midnight performs at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street).
Ebony Repertory Theatre announced today that performances for Phillip Hayes Dean's (Drama Desk-winner for The Sty of the Blind Pig) powerful and moving play PAUL ROBESON will resume performances on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. Two-time Emmy Award-winner Keith David (Fox's new series Enlisted), who stars in this one-man play, returns to the stage after recovering from a knee injury. PAUL ROBESON, directed by Mr. Dean, also includes accompaniment by pianist/musical director Byron J. Smith (working with numerous artists including Wynton Marsalis, Barbra Streisand, BeBe Winans). The production will continue to play through Sunday, March 30, which was part of the previously announced schedule. Three additional performances are set for Friday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, April 19 at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. to make up for the canceled opening weekend performances (Friday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m.). PAUL ROBESON plays at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (4718 West Washington Boulevard) in Los Angeles. Members of the press are invited to review the production beginning on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m.
