All the verses and their titles are constructed solely of jazz tunes with two exceptions. The title exception is 'Jazz Haiku.' The content exception is 'Vibraphonissimo,' a chronological block of vibraphone players whose music I've come to know, resting upon the two pioneers of the instrument. Commas separate titles within the verses, but interior commas from song titles have been removed to prevent confusion.

Assembling a stellar cast of rising stars in the worlds of R&B, funk, soul, jazz and classical, Thelonious Monk Competition Winner and Grammy Award-winning bassist Ben Williams pays tribute to the musical legacy of Prince at Harlem Stage, December 11 and 12. Drawing inspiration from his iconic discography, Dearly Beloved - The Music of Prince will feature newly imagined arrangements and compositions that celebrate the virtuosity of Prince with a wide range of special guests including vocalists Goapele, Frank McComb and Christie Dashiell, tap dancer/choreographer Jason Samuels Smith, poet/emcee/vocalist W. Ellington Felton and additional surprise guests. A guest DJ will spin for the pre-performance mixer and after-party. As a preview to the December 12 performance of Dearly Beloved - The Music of Prince, Harlem Stage will present an intimate conversation with Ben Williams. He'll share his creative process forDearly Beloved and discuss the art of re-imagining and arranging works of famous artists.

FirstWorks brings an evening of swinging elegance and New York City sophistication to kick off their 2015-16 Artistic Icons Series. Big Band Holidays concerts, a seasonal tradition among jazz lovers and families, showcases 15 of the most electrifying jazz soloists, ensemble players, and arrangers in the country. Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, America's preeminent large jazz ensemble, is led by Wynton Marsalis, hailed as the most outstanding jazz musician of his generation, brings its Big Band Holidays program to Rhode Island for the first time on Friday, December 4, 7:30PM at The Vets in downtown Providence at 1 Ave of the Arts, Providence, RI 02903. Juillard @ SOPAC rings in the holiday season with the Juilliard Jazz Ensemble performing swinging holiday favorites on SUN, DEC 13th at 3 p.m. at SOPAC. This young ensemble, the finest of Juilliard's Jazz graduate students, is directed by Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis. The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) today announced its 2016 YoungArts Winners. From more than 12,000 applications-the largest number to date-819 young artists from 42 states have been selected for their outstanding work and accomplishments across the literary, visual, design and performing arts. Winners receive cash awards of up to $10,000, validation by renowned mentors, opportunities to participate in YoungArts programs, a strong professional network, and guidance in taking important steps toward achieving their goals. Happy Birthday Jeremy Jordan! In 2012, Jordan was nominated for a Tony Award for his role as Jack Kelly in NEWSIES, which he began with Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011. Jordan has also appeared in Broadway's Bonnie & Clyde in 2011, as well as Rock of Ages and West Side Story in 2009. He guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU in 2008 and appeared in the film Joyful Noise. He also appeared in the second season of NBC's SMASH. Most recently, he starred in the special Encores! event A Bed and a Chair- Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis's new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
