Speakeasy Premieres New Episode with Musicians Sting And Shaggy

Available for the first time on YouTube, iconic musicians Sting and Shaggy come together for an intimate conversation offering an insightful look at their creative process, musical inspirations, artistic common ground and mutual appreciation and respect for each other's work on a very special episode of Speakeasy. Following an airing on New York City's WNET at 1:30 am EST Monday, September 17, the program can be streamed Tuesday, September 18 on Sting's YouTube page, the Cherrytree Music Company's YouTube and www.speakeasytalk.com.

Damien Sneed Joins The Staff Of The Houston Grand Opera

Multi-genre recording artist Damien Sneed, a Sphinx Medal of Excellence recipient, joins the acclaimed staff of the Houston Grand Opera (HGOco) as Music Director and Composer in Residence. As such, Sneed will work on new commission projects, compose a new work for HGOco, and serve as cover conductor for HGO mainstage productions under Patrick Summers, Artistic and Music Director.

Un total de 23 conciertos conforman el segundo segmento de la temporada 2018 de la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional (OSN), que se llevará a cabo del 7 de septiembre al 16 de diciembre, bajo la guía de su director titular, el maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto, en su sede habitual, el Palacio de Bellas Artes. Las sesiones se realizarán los viernes a las 20:00 y los domingos a las 12:15, excepto un concierto especial que se realizará en La Paz, Baja California Sur.

Juilliard President Damian Woetzel Announces Key Initiatives

Juilliard President Damian Woetzel announced several key initiatives and new projects aimed to advance Juilliard's excellence and impact in his first address to the Juilliard community, on September 4. During the convocation ceremony, which also featured performances by Juilliard students, faculty, alumni, and some of the newly announced Creative Associates, Woetzel outlined his plans to build on Juilliard's tradition of excellence while also focusing on creative enterprise and inclusivity in the arts.

Phyllis Blanford and Friends hit Trumpets Jazz Club this September

'Molasses-toned' and 'soulful' Phyllis Blanford, whose acclaimed debut album Edgewalker was the talk of the town last year, will take to Trumpets Jazz Club's historic stage on September 21st for an evening of jazz. Blanford will be joined by an array of acclaimed musicians, featuring Lou Rainone on piano, Calvin X. Jones on Bass, Norman Mann on Percussion, Noel Sagerman on Drums and James Stewart on Sax and Flute. 

Bronx Arts Expands Opportunity And Opens Second School In South Bronx

Bronx Charter School for the Arts' students, staff, families and supporters have a lot to be excited about heading back-to-school. On Thursday, Aug. 30, educators, national leaders from the Arts community, elected officials, families and students will join the ribbon-cutting celebration as Bronx Arts opens a middle school for 6th-8th grade students. The middle school is located in the Soundview section of the Bronx, less than half a mile from the Bronx Arts Elementary School, the leading elementary school in the community. School administrators say the lottery selection process for the middle school attracted more than 280 interested rising 6th grade students and families and filled 75 available seats. The school will add additional 6th grade classes annually, reaching capacity in the 2020-2021 school year.

Carnegie Hall Announces 2018—2019 Classical Highlights

 Carnegie Hall's 2018-2019 season is fast approaching, and we are looking forward to exciting new projects and outstanding concerts! Highlights below include Carnegie Hall's Opening Night Gala with the San Francisco Symphony led by Michael Tilson Thomas as he embarks on his season-long Perspectives series; the launch of pianist Yuja Wang's Perspectives series; concerts curated and performed by Chris Thile, holder of the Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair; the debut of Decoda, featuring alumni of Ensemble Connect; concerts celebrating the 50th anniversary of the New York String Orchestra and the 90th birthday of pianist Leon Fleisher; and, coming in spring 2019: a citywide festival-Migrations: The Making of America.

Music Worcester Returns With Four New Shows

From cutting edge technology to classical music and ballet, The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts partners with Music Worcester in presenting four spectacular performances this season, including Callas in Concert: The Hologram Tour, Bach's Goldberg Variations with Simone Dinnerstein, Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy: Visions from Cape Breton and Beyond and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake performed by the Russian National Ballet. Tickets to all four performances are now on sale to members and go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, September 4 at 10 am.
