Fort Worth Opera General Director Darren K. Woods today shared further details about the highly anticipated world premiere of the company's third commissioned opera, JFK (working title), by the sensational and highly acclaimed team of composer David T. Little and librettist Royce Vavrek. The opera, which serves as the crown jewel of Fort Worth Opera's (FWOpera's) 70th anniversary season in 2016, is the final work in three years of world premieres from the company that begin during the upcoming 2014 season. The world premiere production of JFK will take place at Fort Worth's renowned Bass Performance Hall on April 16, 2016.
TNT Orders ON THE MENU from Mark Burnett

TNT has greenlit the new series On the Menu (working title), television's first cooking show ever to give viewers the chance to taste the winning dish after every episode. The network has ordered 10 episodes of the series, which is slated to launch in 2014. Mark Burnett (The Bible, The Voice, Survivor) serves as executive producer for On the Menu, which is being produced by One Three Media, Burnett's joint venture with Hearst Corporation. In addition to producing TNT's On the Menu, Burnett and One Three Media serve as executive producers on TBS's new series Trust Me, I'm a Game Show Host, which is slated to premiere Oct. 22.

Imani Hakim (Everybody Hates Chris, Love Reign Over Me) and Sydney Mikayla (Whitney) have been cast to share the role of two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas in the Lifetime Original Movie The Gabby Douglas Story (working title). Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the movie details the inspiring true story of the international gymnastics phenomenon, who overcame overwhelming odds to become the first African American ever to be named Individual All-round Champion in artistic gymnastics at the Olympics. Mikayla will portray Douglas during her childhood while Hakim will play the gold medalist as a teenager and young adult. The real-life Gabby Douglas will appear in the film, which also stars Peabody Award-winning actress Regina King (Southland, Ray) and Golden Globe(R) and Emmy(R)-winner S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order). The Gabby Douglas Story will film in Manitoba, Canada, and debut in 2014.
AMC Developing WALKING DEAD Companion Series

AMC announced today that the network is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to its original drama series The Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC in October of 2010. The Walking Dead is currently the #1 show on television among adults 18-49. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are on board as executive producers, with AMC Studios set to produce. The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015.

Acorn Productions is pleased to announce that they have hired two new staff members for the coming season, and expanded the job descriptions of two current staff members as part of a staff reorganization that better allows the company to operate its educational programs and production season. The new staff structure will better provide the support necessary to produce Acorn's season, comprised of three children's theater presentations by the Fairy Tale Players, the company's annual Jewish-themed holiday show, the 13th edition of the Maine Playwrights Festival, and more ongoing free performances by Naked Shakespeare. Additionally, the Acorn Acting Academy will offer four semesters of classes and summer camps as well as the second year of our Acorn Shakespeare Conservatory. Acorn has also just begun a new partnership with the Westbrook Community Center that involves afterschool educational theatre classes and performances through the 21st Century Grant program.
