I say 'almost' as I would never want to put his quirky, flawed characters looking for love (like the ones in his Oscar winning screenplay 'Moonstruck') in the same boat as standard romantic comedy. And that off kilter romance has found its way onto the Seattle Rep stage with his latest piece 'Outside Mullingar', showing that his adorably bittersweet style is alive and well.

Thanks to Wilson Milam's fast paced direction and the highly gifted cast, CORKTOWN '57 truly becomes not only a serious look at a family in distress for both religious and political reasons but also a great history lesson on how intolerance can lead you down the wrong path to salvation. And how many examples of that can you find in today's world? Too many to count, I'm afraid.

New Century Theatre Company (NCTC) has announced its dynamic 2015 season will include 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winner The Flick by Annie Baker and the powerhouse family drama Festen by David Eldridge. The Flick will be directed by NCTC Company Member MJ Sieber, who directed David Mamet's The Water Engine at Strawberry Theatre Workshop in 2007. Festen will be directed by Wilson Milam, who has directed for Seattle Repertory Theatre (God of Carnage, Glengarry Glen Ross) and was nominated for a Tony Award for his direction of the 2006 production of Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore on Broadway.

Christopher Marlowe's 1587 epic Tamburlaine, Parts I and II, edited and directed by Olivier Award-winner Michael Boyd and starring John Douglas Thompson, opens Sunday, November 16, at 1:00pm at Theatre for a New Audience, Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place.

Monica West has joined the cast of the kef theatrical production of IT'S ONLY KICKBALL, STUPID -- the new play by Caroline Prugh and directed by Adam Fitzgerald. She will step in for Autum Hurlbert, who had to leave the production do to scheduling conflicts, for performances through Sunday, September 14 at The Hartley House (413 West 46th Street).

BIG BLOCK ENTERTAINMENT (Heathers: The Musical), a television, film, live entertainment and design production company led by Scott Benson, Tony Award-winning producer Jamie Bendell (A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder) and Tony Award-nominated producer Scott Prisand (Rock of Ages), announced today they have optioned the play A FAMILY THING, written by Peabody Award nominee and Emmy Award nominee Gary Lennon ("Orange Is The New Black"), for a Broadway run in 2015. James Michael Angelo and Tiffany Haas are thrilled to announce that Megan Hilty (Smash, Sean Saves the World, Wicked and Nine to Five on Broadway) will be the very first guest on their new talk show, AMERICAN BLEND. The pilot episode will hit the web on Tuesday, June 17th on the AMERICAN BLEND website, (www.americanblend.tv). Wilson Milam (The Lieutenant of Inishmore on Broadway, for the RSC and at the Taper) will direct the West Coast premiere of Dates and Nuts, a romantic comedy by Gary Lennon (Orange is the New Black for Netflix, Echo Theater Company's A Family Thing). Opening night is set for May 31 at the Bootleg Theater.
