Join OrangeMite Studios this summer for the organization's fifth original musical, "The Adventures of the Mysterious Tigerman". Written by William Wolfgang and Jesse Rupp (the minds who brought you "Heavy Lies the Crown" and "Starcross'd"), this show 'combines Rupp's knack for song writing with Wolfgang's story and characters, which he starting writing at the age of four.'

Nominations for the 57th Annual Drama Desk Awards will be announced at a news conference on Friday, April 27, 2011, at 9:30 AM at Feinstein's at the Loews Regency, 540 Park Avenue at 61st Street, in Manhattan. A continental breakfast will be available at 8:45 AM. Drama Desk winners Donna Murphy and Brian d'Arcy James will announce the nominations in the various categories. In addition, there will be remarks by Drama Desk President Isa Goldberg, Drama Desk Awards Executive Producer Robert R. Blume and new Drama Desk Awards Executive Producer Gretchen Shugart, Nominating Committee Chairperson Barbara Siegel and Randie Levine-Miller, Drama Desk Director of Special Events, who annually produces this event.

The New York Philharmonic Ensembles, composed of Musicians from the Orchestra, will give its second performance of the 2011-12 season on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Merkin Concert Hall, in a program featuring Jonathan Pieslak's Gray Fractures, Janá?ek's Mládí (Youth), and Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 2. The musicians on the program will be flutist Sandra Church; oboist Sherry Sylar; clarinetist Pascual Martinez Forteza; bass clarinetist Amy Zoloto (guest artist); bassoonist Kim Laskowski; horn player R. Allen Spanjer; violinist Lisa Kim; violist Rebecca Young; cellists Eric Bartlett, Maria Kitsopoulos, Sumire Kudo, Ru-Pei Yeh, and Wei Yu; and pianist William Wolfram (guest artist).

Harvey Fierstein Hosts 2011 Drama Desk Awards on National TV, 5/23

The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards announced a series of major changes designed to enhance the visibility and outreach of the Drama Desk Awards nationwide while, at the same time, creating a large national footprint for all segments of New York theater. The changes include a television broadcast deal with Ovation; moving the awards ceremony from a concert hall to a prestigious ballroom in Midtown Manhattan; presenting the awards at a gala sit-down dinner in an elegant setting, hosted by a major Broadway star; adding musical numbers from nominated New York stage productions; changing the day of the annual Drama Desk Awards from its traditional Sunday time-slot to a Monday night when most Broadway and Off Broadway shows are dark; and adding major media partners. The changes were announced at a news conference held today (Thursday, February 24, 2011) at Inc Lounge in the Time Hotel, 224 West 49th Street, by Robert R. Blume, who has been Executive Producer of the annual Drama Desk Awards since 1999.

Isa Goldberg Elected Drama Desk President

Isa Goldberg, theater critic and journalist, has been elected the new President of the Drama Desk by its membership voting electronically in approval of the projected Officers and Board of Directors slate for 2010-2011. She assumed the Presidency at this evening's annual membership meeting, held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Travel Inn, 515 West 42nd Street. Ms. Goldberg was introduced as the incoming President by outgoing President William Wolf, who was elected to remain on the Board as a Member-at-Large.

Last night, October 25th, James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's never-before-staged Evening Primrose took a one-night-only bow to benefit the St. George's Society of New York 's Anglo-American Cultural Awards at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College. The production starred Candice Bergen, John McMartin, Sean Palmer, Bill Duell, John Windsor Cunningham, and Jessica Grove. BROADWAY MELODY MAKERS on Friday October 15th at 8PM, was directed by Scott Coulter, with musical direction by Ross Patterson. The cast also includes Tony Award ® winners Alice Ripley (Next to Normal, Sideshow) and Michael Cerveris (Assasins), along with Nellie McKay (Threepenny Opera), Tom Wopat (Annie Get Your Gun, A Catered Affair), and Mary Testa (Xanadu, On the Town). The concert featured songs by Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, and so many others down through the decades to the likes of Jule Styne and Cy Coleman, among others.
