The 2017 awards honor productions which opened between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors.

The Marsh San Francisco announces political comedian Will Durst's solo show, Durst Case Scenario has been extended due to popular demand, running at The Marsh San Francisco through March 27, plus two additional February performances at The Marsh Berkeley. Specializing in political humor for folks who don't like politics, Durst's rollicking feast of outraged and outrageous satire is a comedic exploration of how America is changing in the Trump era, with Theatrius recently noting most certainly a guilty pleasure. To laugh at suffering in the worst of times feels wrong, but to laugh together can feel so right. Durst Case Scenario, which earned Durst a 2017 Theatre Bay Area Award nomination for Outstanding Solo Production will continue his extended run at The Marsh San Francisco, 1062 Valencia Street, San Francisco now through December 19. The BroadwayWorld San Francisco award-nominated production for Best Solo Performance returns January 30-March 27, 8:00pm Tuesdays and will add two shows at The Marsh Berkeley, 2120 Allston Way, Berkeley February 8-10, 8:00pm Thursday and 5:00pm Saturday. SF Sketchfest was founded in 2001 by David Owen, Cole Stratton, and Janet Varney as a way to showcase the talents of six Bay Area sketch comedy groups: The Fresh Robots, Kasper Hauser, The Meehan Brothers, Please Leave the Bronx, Totally False People, and White Noise Radio Theatre. The festival debuted in January of 2002 at the Shelton Theatre in downtown San Francisco and has grown rapidly into a nationally recognized comedy festival that mixes national headliners, local favorites, and the best up-and-coming groups from throughout North America for a month of sketch, improv, stand-up, and alternative comedy. Jo Schuman Silver, Producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced today the nine Bay Area high school seniors selected as finalists for the Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts." Each of the finalists will perform live in front of family, friends and a panel of celebrity judges on Monday, June 6. One winner in each category will be presented with a check for $15,000 towards their college education. The nine high school seniors who will perform are:
