ANMT'S Launches 2011/12 Concert Reading Series

What would you pay for a miracle? The people of the small town of Painted Post, Massachusetts have got plenty of reasons to believe. It is 1945, and not only has the town lost many of its young men in the war, but now a vision of the Virgin Mary has appeared in the window above the sickbed of a comatose young girl. So what if the girl's mother charges admission to pray at her bedside and witness the vision? And when the girl suddenly awakens after five years, she is pregnant. Could it be yet another miracle -- or just one of her mother's hoaxes?

BWW Reviews: Kritzerland Scores Again with Schmidt & Jones
by Don Grigware
- Aug 5, 2011
Another wonderful evening of song from Kritzerland, Bruce Kimmel's production label, at the Gardenia on Wednesday August 3, this time saluting the music of Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, and congrats are in as this show marks Kritzerland's 12th consecutive show in its series at the Gardenia! Schmidt and Jones penned The Fantasticks, I Do! I Do!, among the most famous, and less so: 110 In the Shade, Collette Collage, Celebration and even a musical entitled The Bone Room. On hand to perform were musical director John Boswell and special guest Rex Smith, Lauren Rubin, Michaelia Leigh, Will Collyer, Camille Saviola, Michael Hawkins, 13 year-old Melody Hollis and even Guy Haines - I mean, Bruce Kimmel himself - singing. And I'm here to tell you, he didn't sound half bad! Kimmel as always introduced the evening with interesting composer trivia and anecdotes. The music showcased included well known tunes and lesser known or unfamiliar ones. Schmidt and Jones may not have had the popularity of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, or Kander and Ebb, but one thing is certain they sure did pen some eclectically beautiful songs!

This summer, California youth and the Pasadena Musical Theatre Program (est. 1995) will workshop
Ryan Scott Oliver's brand new Jasper in Deadland, August 5 and 6. 'Jasper in Deadland tells the story of 16-year-old Jasper, who loses his best friend Agnes and travels into the afterlife to retrieve her. But this afterlife-'Deadland'-is some kind of freakish, a hybrid of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse and Judeo-Christian mythologies, divided into seven 'circles' where Jasper encounters Cerberus, the demoness Ammut, Loki and his daughter Hel, a psychotic redneck
named The Chuckster, and the ever mysterious Mr. Lethe. Will Jasper retrieve his best friend Agnes? Or will he join the Dead forever?'
