The Off-Broadway Shelter Theatre presents FAIRY TALE, of five original short plays inspired by the stories of The Brothers Grimm, Washington Irving, and Charles Perrault. Each story is a unique take on classic fairy tales, but unfortunately, there is hardly any semblance of the originals as these stories remain strange and often quite disturbing.

Porchlight Theatre Company Presents AMERICAN GOTHIC Benefit, 10/28

San Rafael's beautiful Falkirk Mansion / Falkirk Cultural Center serves as a haunting backdrop when the award-winning Porchlight Theatre Company players and their colleagues from the Bay Area theatrical community present dramatizations of classic stories of the macabre written by American writers Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving and William Faulkner.

WICKED LIT Announces 1st International Production & Expands Reading Series to San Diego

Unbound Productions Co-Artistic Directors Jonathan Josephson, Paul Millet, and Jeff G. Rack have announced two waves of expansion to their popular horror story adaptation series WICKED LIT. On Thursday, October 20, The American School of Yaoundé in Cameroon, presented Josephson's adaptation of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In addition, WICKED LIT's free staged reading series will expand from Los Angeles- based events and schools to two locations in San Diego: Lestat's (October 23 and 27 at 6:30pm) and The Egyptian Tea Room (October 26 at 8:00pm).

Lineup and Cast Set For WICKED LIT 2011

Unbound Productions Co-Artistic Directors Jonathan Josephson, Paul Millet, and Jeff G. Rack have announced the line-up and casting for two full productions of the popular horror story adaptation series WICKED LIT that will take place at Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery in Altadena, California. Production A (October 21-November 5, 2011) will consist of a remount of three plays that the theatre company produced as part of last year's engagement: Charles Dickens' The Chimes, H.P. Lovecraft's The Unnamable and Edgar Allan Poe's The Cask of Amontillado.

Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers Presents HEADLESS HORSEMAN OF SILLY HOLLOW at Center for Puppetry Arts, 10/18-30

In this comedic version of the classic Washington Irving tale, schoolteacher Ichabod Crane helps the Headless Horseman find a new head and a spookier image. Meanwhile, a jealous Brom Bones tries to run Ichabod out of town as they both vie for the affection of Katrina Van Tassel. In the end the Horseman saves the day and everyone is 'happy ever after!' This family-friendly Halloween show is the perfect silly show for children of all ages.

Authors And Illustrators Set For Celebrate Children’s Book Day, 9/25

Daniel Kirk, author/illustrator of the Library Mouse series, will join Alyssa Capucilli, author of the Biscuit series, and dozens more children's book authors and illustrators at Celebrate Children's Book Day, a one-day gala devoted to children's literature and filled with readings, demonstrations, magic, music, and book signings at Washington Irving's Sunnyside on Sunday, Sept. 25.
