As part of the popular "Signature Cinema" series, Signature Theatre will present "The Bruce Lee Film Series" in conjunction with the World Premiere of David Henry Hwang's new play KUNG FU, directed by Leigh Silverman with choreography bySonya Tayeh. Signature will screen Enter the Dragon on Tuesday, February 25th and the documentary I Am Bruce Lee onMonday, March 24. In response to the interest and discussion surrounding the recent releases of 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Django Unchained (2012), Museum of the Moving Image will present Massa' Gaze: Screenings and Critical Discussions of the Depictions of Slavery in Film and Television. The event, on Saturday, February 1, from 1:00 to 8:30 p.m., opens with a rare screening of Solomon Northup's Odyssey, Gordon Parks's 1984 film adaptation of Northup's memoir (the same source material as 12 Years a Slave), and closes with Burn!, Gillo Pontecorvo's 1969 film about a Caribbean slave rebellion starring Marlon Brando.
Zoë Bell, the international action icon discovered by Quentin Tarantino, will appear at Museum of the Moving Image with a preview screening of her new film Raze, on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. In this exciting and relentlessly hyperviolent action film directed by Josh Waller, she stars as a woman forced to do battle with other innocents for the amusement of unseen spectators. Leading in to this special screening and appearance, the Museum will also present a retrospective of her work—chronicling her transformation from stuntwoman to star—in the films Whip It, Death Proof, and Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 on January 4 and 5. Museum of the Moving Image will present a special screening of Gordon Parks, Jr.'s Superfly, the seminal urban crime drama set in 1972 New York City, starring Ron O'Neal, Carl Lee, and Sheila Frazier, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The film's now classic soundtrack—written, produced, and performed by the legendary Curtis Mayfield—is one of the few soundtracks to have out-grossed its film. The special event on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. begins with a screening of Superfly in 35mm (96 mins.), with co-star Sheila Frazier in person for a Q&A, followed by a “Best Superfly Outfit” contest and vocal competition for best a cappella singer of a verse from a song on the Superfly soundtrack, emceed by film producer and Museum trustee Warrington Hudlin. He will be joined by Bow Legged Lou, Paul Anthony, and George Logan, cast members from Hudlin's film House Party.

Pui Chan: Kung Fu Pioneer, a new film about Chan, directed by his daughter Mimi Chan, will screen at the Museum today, February 23, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. as part of its Fist and Sword martial arts showcase. Mimi Chan will appear in person at the screening, with special guests who will perform a traditional Chinese lion dance.
