The Players to Celebrate 125th Anniversary with NYE Gala

One Hundred and Twenty-Five years ago this New Year's Eve, America's most celebrated actor, Edwin Booth gave the Deed of 16 Gramercy Park South to The Players. The Players tradition has been to read the deed in front of the Great Hall fire place echoing back to Edwin Booth and the Founding Members. This year, this tradition continues along with live music, dancing, and more festivities as The Players kicks off a new era, sharing a toast to its founders and celebrating 125 years at 'A Certain Club.'

Providence Children's Museum and the Providence Athenaeum are partnering to present a series of panel discussions, moderated by Museum director Janice O'Donnell, about the critical importance of self-directed play for children's healthy growth and development. Conversations will be held the first Tuesday of March, April and May from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the Athenaeum (251 Benefit Street in Providence) and are free and open to the public.

Hedgerow Theatre launches its 88th season Sept. 22-Oct. 10 with an adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's stunning novel An American Tragedy portraying true events about one of the most infamous murders of the century. Dreiser's masterpiece is being presented in cooperation with The University of Pennsylvania and The Wharton Esherick Museum, as part of a major symposium, THE BIRTH OF THE MODERN, held this fall at the University of Pennsylvania.

Christopher Plummer to Speak at Westport Malloy Lecture in the Arts, 9/16

Westport Public Library is pleased to announce that The Malloy Lecture in the Arts will be held on Thursday, September 16, at 7:00 pm. The event will take place at Westport Country Playhouse (25 Powers Court, Westport). Entitled 'The Malloy Lecture in the Arts: Remembering Archie (Archibald MacLeish-The Poet and the Man), as told by Christopher Plummer,' the evening will feature Emmy and Tony award-winning actor Christopher Plummer, who will combine MacLeish's poetry with his personal reminiscences of the poet. In addition, Plummer will be interviewed by Westport Country Playhouse Artistic Advisor Anne Keefe about his own career and memoir, 'In Spite of Myself.'
