Kate Baldwin and Conor Ryan, the stars of the Keen Company production of John & Jen, the musical with music by Andrew Lippa, lyrics byTom Greenwald, and a book by Greenwald and Lippa, just headed to the recording studio to preserve the 2015 Off-Broadway Cast Recording for Broadway Records. A June 16th release is planned. Andrew Lippa and Michael Croiter will produce the album. Musical Director is Lily Lang. This recording will include the premiere of the new song, 'Trouble with Men,' as well as new orchestrations and two songs from the score never before recorded. Following its successful Off-Broadway run at New York City's Theatre 80 in the Fall of 2014, LIBERTY: A MONUMENTAL NEW MUSICAL kicked off a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo for their cast recording. Early in 2015 the cast of LIBERTY and its writers went into the studio at John Kilgore Sound & Recording to make a cast album. BroadwayWorld was invited in for a sneak peek and to hear some of the recording as it happened.
One of the most idiosyncratic and undeniably gifted composers and lyricists to emerge this century, Michael Mott has taken the theatre world by storm with his absolutely spectacular collection of compositions titled WHERE THE SKY ENDS: THE SONGS OF MICHAEL MOTT and now Mott discusses the finer points of his newest release extensively as part of a fresh multi-part series analyzing his theatre and pop work, old and new. In today's discussion, Mott and I analyze his brand new collection of pop remixes for the WHERE THE SKY ENDS standout 'Gone', featuring a spine-tingling track that exclusively premiered on this site earlier this week, 'Gone (Adam Zucker French 75 Mix)', which is available here. Mott lays out the groundwork of the pop-based roots for the tune, largely inspired by the work of chart-topper Jason Mraz, as well as sheds some light on his desire to create a remix EP reminiscent of superstar Mariah Carey and her iconic remix albums of the 1990s and 2000s. Additionally, Mott goes inside the process itself and offers the full 411 on what made these exceptional remixes a reality as well as the accomplished producers he collaborated with to make the remixes all a reality. Last August, the 12.14 Foundation premiered Michael Unger and Eric Svejcar's A ROCKIN' Midsummer Night's Dream. This week, the new musical comes to New York City at 54 BELOW. With a ton of energy and some serious vocal talent, the kids involved with the 12.14 Foundation and the Broadway vetted adults bring fabulous new life to William Shakespeare's classic tale of love and fairy mischief.
As BWW previously reported, the soundtrack for NBC's PETER PAN LIVE! starring Allison Williams and Christopher Walken was just released by Broadway Records. The company just reunited to celebrate the release of the album and you can check out photos from inside the special event below!
At the age of 14, actress Abigail Shapiro is quite the busy lady. With credits like Cindy Lou Who in HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! and the titular character in LIBERTY under her belt, she is currently gearing up to portray Sara Crewe in a special cabaret presentation of Andrew Lippa's musical A LITTLE PRINCESS. Recently, she and I sat down to discuss this exciting, new cabaret event.
