BWW Reviews: LYSISTRATA at Connecticut Repertory Theatre

Outrageous, bawdy, and pointed: LYSISTRATA may be one of the oldest comedies we have (written in 411 B.C.E. by the great Greek troublemaker Aristophanes) but it remains both wickedly funny and pertinent. He wrote it 20 years into a bloody war that seemed endless. His premise? Have women conspire to withhold sex from their men until they can't take it any more and agree to a peace treaty.

BWW Reviews: Theatre Memphis Dusts Off TINTYPES

Not too many seasons back, at Theatre Works I saw a charming review of turn-of-the-century musical numbers (by the likes of Irving Berlin and others) entitled SIMPLE MELODIES. The songs were rendered by a small but talented ensemble, and I so enjoyed it that I returned more than once - basically, because I wanted to treat friends who I knew would appreciate it as much as I did. With Theatre Memphis' TINTYPES, conceived by Mary Kyte with Mel Marvin and Gary Pearle, and charmingly directed (often with a 'knowing wink') by Kell Christie, I may just have to contact those friends once again.

Now that the world premier of 'Zorro!' has opened and is enjoying ever-growing and receptive audiences of all ages, the adaptor of this famous swashbuckling tale, James Rana, had time to answer a few questions. This is the third world premiere in three years written by Rana, and produced by the Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company, with its artistic director, Gayle Stahlhuth, directing.

St. Louis Monk Releases 'Wildest...', Final Book in the Children's Series

Although the Wild... series is an alphabet children's book of poetry, it can be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages. The creatures that Fr. Ralph introduces us to are from all over the world; some common, some extremely rare, and all amusing in their own way. In Wild..., Fr. Ralph takes us from Anne, the quiet Clam, whose mother is chowder, to Uncle Sam the Eagle, who wishes he were gentle but claims, 'I am what I am,' to the Umbrella bird who thinks it is 'quite absurd' that some people don't believe he exists, to the Yamaha Shark who suggests that we don't want to meet him at close quarters. These and the twenty-two other creatures of the alphabet bring delight and humor to readers of all ages.
