After a sold-out and critically acclaimed run at The New York International Fringe Festival, the award-winning The Umbrella Plays is back, for a limited engagement at The Tank, March 31st - April 10th.
Written by Stephanie Janssen and directed by Daniel Talbott (art. dir. Rising Phoenix Rep, Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times)), The Umbrella Plays connects six snap-shot-sized plays, each offering a glimpse into the lives of a disparate (and sometimes desperate) cast of characters, as they work their ways through inclement weather of the literal and figurative variety, searching for shelter in whatever form it can be found. The smallest and most common-place of objects, the simple umbrella, becomes the entry point into these stories, reminding us that there is more than meets the eye in the most innocuous-seeming pieces of a life, and the most fleeting of moments. Storms crash in and leave their marks, lovers are sought and lost and found again, ambitions jump the tracks and hopes get renewed, and in the swirl of these six stories, an umbrella is never, ever just an umbrella.

Theater for the New City has announced that following its sold-out, critically-acclaimed run as part of the DreamUp New Plays Festival, Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times), written by Jonathan Blitstein and directed by Daniel Talbott, will return for an extension beginning Thursday, September 16 at 7pm and running through Tuesday, September 28. Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times) plays at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets. Told in seven scenes taking place over several years Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times) traces the devolution of a friendship between two young New York men whose bonds are compromised by the stresses of career, family, relationships, and 21st century sexual mores in a complex digital age in which we ask too many questions, but don't have enough answers.

Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times) was first presented as part of the Dream Up New Plays Festival in early August 2010.
THE BILBAO EFFECT, a world-premiere play that puts contemporary architecture on trial, written by Oren Safdie (whose previous play about architecture, PRIVATE JOKES, PUBLIC PLACES, was a hit Off-Broadway in 2003) will be presented Off-Broadway with previews starting May 12 prior to an official press opening night on May 16, 2010 at Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place) in Manhattan.
