BWW Review: Audiences Give Praise to BOOK OF MORMON at The Music Hall At Fair Park

The Book of Mormon swept through Dallas this week and could not have been better received by it's audiences. When auxiliary parking and bathroom breaks take enduring longer lines than those in certain sacred texts, you know the buzz about a show has hit it's peak. Wondrous comedic duo, Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park and Team America fame, first blessed our great nation with The Book of Mormon in 2011. The work was a daring collaboration with Robert Lopez, who we can thank for the genius music and lyrics on Avenue Q and a little song called "Let it Go" from Frozen. The story is at its core a simple tale of finding your voice and accepting one another. But true to the creator's particular brand of humor, the narrative is told through a gleefully tongue-in-cheek style production rife with vulgar humor and lewd imagery.

BWW Interview: BOOK OF MORMON Cast Member Corey Jones

I believe that truly the most talented people in the arts are also some of the most humble. One of my greatest joys as an arts critic is having a personal conversation with an individual artist or a member of a production team and realizing I'd like to just hang out with them on a basic human level-grab a whiskey and shoot the breeze, maybe go bowling! On Saturday morning I had one of these very relaxed encounters in an interview with Corey Jones. Mr. Jones is currently eclipsing his year anniversary with the U.S. Tour of 'Book of Mormon' as the role of The General. Corey was kind enough to take my call at the 'early actor's hour' (his words) of 11:30am to talk about coming back to Texas, the success of this show, and special skills actors should consider listing on their resumes...

BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON preaches at Broadway At The Hobby Center

It is perversely funny, profane at many points, but in the end shows huge heart and calls for the virtue of love and service to your fellow man. It's not exactly a family-friendly show, but it is one your 16 year-old son would prefer to see over THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON a Raucous Romp Through Religion Opens at the Music Hall

Remember turning off the lights and not answering the door when the men in white shirts and a tie rang the doorbell wanting to give you that free book and tell you about their religion. No need to shut off the lights and run and hide when these men appear at the Music Hall. Yes, they do want to spread their faith with THE BOOK OF MORMON, the hilarious musical comedy now playing at the Kansas City Music Hall through Sunday, December 30.
