BWW Review: SCHIKANEDER schillert bei der Weltpremiere in Wien

Am vergangenen Freitag fand im Raimund Theater Wien die Weltpremiere des Musicals SCHIKANEDER statt. Die neue Eigenproduktion der Vereinigten Buhnen Wien (VBW) stammt aus der Feder von Oscar- und Grammy Gewinner Stephen Schwartz (Musik und Lyrics) und Christian Struppeck (Buch). Das Stuck handelt von Emanuel Schikaneder, seinerseits Librettist der weltberuhmten Oper „Die Zauberflote". Daruber hinaus war er aber auch Produzent, Regisseur, Theaterbesitzer, Schauspieler und eine er schillerndsten Theaterpersonlichkeiten des 18 Jahrhunderts. SCHIKANEDER ist aber keineswegs eine musikalisierte Biografie. Vielmehr erzahlt das Musical von der turbulenten Liebesgeschichte zwischen ihm und seiner Frau Eleonore.

With John Malkovich's acclaimed production of Good Canary entering its final week, Rose Theatre Kingston today announces its new season for 2017. Headlining the season is the world premiere of My Brilliant Friend, a two-part adaptation of Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan quartet of novels which have become a global literary sensation. The true identity of the author is a mystery, with Elena Ferrante a pseudonym used by the writer, but speculation over the weekend suggested that the author had been unmasked.

Behind the scenes of the Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria everybody is working in high gear at the newest in-house production of the Vereinigte Buhnen Wien: SCHIKANEDER - the turbulent love story behind The Magic Flute. The new musical by Stephen Schwartz (music and lyrics), Christian Struppeck (book) and Sir Trevor Nunn (director) will have its world premiere on September 30th in Vienna.
Just a little over a year after our last interview with Christian Struppeck, shortly after the musical SCHIKANEDER was announced, we got to catch up with him again to find out how the show has developed since then and how things are going in the rehearsal room.

In her latest interview with 60 Minutes, Streisand discusses how Jackman's voice was the starting point for the album's core concept: creating 'mini scenes' through dialogue and duets with film stars. On the album, Streisand and Jackman sing the previously unproduced 'Any Moment Now' by the late, celebrated composer Marvin Hamlisch. This rendition of the song tells the story of a couple that has reached the breaking point in their marriage, and the video features clips from Streisand and Jackman's recording session for the track.
