Leave it to Kander and Ebb to create The Scottsboro Boys, a monstrously humane musical in the guise of a minstrel show. After all, it's what they are most famous for: taking headline news - the darker, the better - and turning it upside down inside out it with an unexpectedly entertaining structure.

BroadwayWorld has photos from the festivities below, featuring celebrity guests Paula Abdul, Angela Bassett, Brely Evans, Zoela Gaye, Jason George, Kearran Giovanni, Sam Harris, Regina King, Kenny Lattimore, Dawnn Lewis, Councilwoman Jan Perry, Clifton Powell, Barry Shabaka Henley, Calvin Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Terri White, Kym Whitley and more!
"The Scottsboro Boys" opens Wednesday, May 29 at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. CTG's production of Kander and Ebb's bold and wildly entertaining musical, with book by David Thompson, and direction and choreography by Tony Award-winning Susan Stroman, continues through June 30, 2013.
