Inis Nua Theatre Company is proud to celebrate its 15th anniversary with the announcement of the 2018-2019 season. Music, laughter and mystery will fill the stage as Inis Nua presents the American Premieres of Inua Ellams' untitled and Monsay Whitney's Box Clever, plus the Philadelphia Premiere of David Greig's The Monster in the Hall. With the new season, Inis Nua will continue to be the only America theatre exploring exciting contemporary plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. All three works from across the pond will continue to bring Philadelphia audiences provocative, shocking and jubilant work by some of the best playwrights of today. This fall, Ryan Raftery returns to Joe's Pub for his fourth consecutive run, premiering his new celebrity bio-musical comedy The Obsession of Calvin Klein. The career and life of one of the most ubiquitous monikers in the world gets the Raftery treatment - the artist's signature blend of comedic stage play and popular music parody. Like the modern classic film Black Swan, The Obsession of Calvin Klein imagines the madness that goes hand-in-hand with the gift of creativity, set to reworked versions of popular songs from the past four decades interwoven with Tchaikovsky's haunting Swan Lake.

Gruesome Playground Injuries, the dark comedy by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph, has its South African premiere at Alexander Bar from 5 to 17 November. Directed by multiple award-winner Tara Notcutt (The Taming of the Shrew, The Three Little Pigs, …miskien), the two hander stars Matt Newman as Doug, and introducing Candice Bernstein as Kayleen.

HIR is anything but traditional. Playwright Taylor Mac has termed his work 'absurd realism' wherein 'the absurdity comes from a heightened but realistic point of view'. Those bold, brave, and open enough to sit in the discomfort that may come with looking at things from diverse points of view will be rewarded with a rich, and very real perspective on the world in which we live.

Today, the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 North Southport, and Inglis Hall Productions announce the World Premiere of EDGE OF LIFE, a timely production focusing on the right to die and the choices we are left with at the end of our lives. For most, the process of dying is a topic not openly discussed, but EDGE OF LIFE spotlights the ever-evolving issues surrounding what it might mean to die with dignity and will leave audience members with the question of "what will I do?" EDGE OF LIFE will preview October 1 - 7 and open October 11, running through November 3.

The two major musical unions at the Metropolitan Opera, the Associated Musicians of Greater New York, Local 802, AFM and the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) announce the approval of a new contract with the institution, pending final ratification on Monday by the AGMA Board of Governors.

"The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death." So said Oscar Wilde's Salome, anticipating the theme running through all six of the works that make up The Atlanta Opera's 2018-19 season. The six are linked also by their novelty, for under the leadership of Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. General & Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun, Atlanta's new season consists entirely of stagings conceived over the past few years. Created in collaboration with leading opera companies from around the world, four are ambitious mainstage productions: the blockbuster musical West Side Story, 19th-century classics Eugene Onegin and La traviata, and the Southeast premiere of Dead Man Walking, a major 21st-century addition to the canon. Rounding out the season, Charlie Parker's Yardbird and Maria de Buenos Aires will be presented in the Discoveries series, which breaks down barriers between artists and their audience by providing authentic, intimate and immersive experiences in nontraditional spaces. The winner of a "Best of Atlanta" award from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and an International Opera Award nomination, the series represents one of the many innovations behind the company's current wave of extraordinary creative and economic resurgence.

Craft Recordings is proud to announce the release of The Complete Cuban Jam Sessions 5-LP and 5-CD box sets on November 9, 2018. Compiled here in their entirety and original format for the first time, the five volumes of Panart's Cuban Jam Session albums were recorded over a span of almost a decade, from 1956-1964. Together these albums encapsulate a stylistic and historic panorama of Cuban music, from big band son montuno to Afro-Cuban rumba, mambo, cha-cha-chá and country acoustic guajira music. At the same time, they attest to Cuba's long relationship with popular American music and jazz.

Mile Square Theatre, Hudson County's leading professional theatre, continues its 2018 season with Christopher Durang's hilarious comedy about love, life and family, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Durang drops a mixed bag of Chekhovian characters in contemporary Bucks County in this comic tour-de-force. Relentlessly silly and smart, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike deservedly won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play.

UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION has moved up its theatrical release date to Sept. 14, 2018. The film follows the second half of Laura Hillenbrand's New York Times best-selling book,Unbroken. It tells the inspiring and powerful Louis “Louie” Zamperini's post-World War II story and his struggle to find peace and forgiveness after his ruthless treatment as a Japanese prisoner of war. In theaters nationwide Sept. 14, 2018.

'I Dig Rock And Roll Music' celebrates the folk-rock era of the '60s and '70s utilizing a six-person band, three of whom were featured in the successful theatrical concert 'Lonesome Traveler.' The show includes hit songs from the folk-rock movement, including protest songs like 'Ohio,' 'For What It's Worth' and others, as well as newly composed songs for the modern era, such as Trevor Wheetman's incendiary 'Dangerous Clown' and Sylvie Davidson's 'Can't Stop That Train.'

Female-identifying playwrights and directors are at the forefront of Matrix Theatre Company's 2018-2019 Mainstage Season. This exciting selection of carefully-chosen plays spans a broad range of topics designed to encourage audiences to examine their own beliefs and their reaction to information presented to them in their daily lives. From September 20, 2018, through March 17, 2019, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present Liz Collins: Rays. Opening in conjunction with New York Textile Month and the exhibition, MAD Collects: The Future of Craft Part 1, the installation in MAD's 1ST SITE project space, which features work that interacts with and interprets the interior architecture and ambiance of the Museum's entry. Liz Collins: Rays is drawn from the artist's "Rays" wallpaper series, the design of which she completed during her 2015 residency in the MAD Artist Studios program.

REP delivers a punk treatment of Sweeney Todd that is astoundingly compact, hideously dynamic and impressively submersive. The set is efficiently arranged, a versatile, vertically integrated playing space, full of grunge and London-isms. The Company members display powerful, accurate and impressive vocal prowess. Every one of them is physically precise, flexible and compelling. Director Joseph Ritsch has confidence in his cast's ability to manage multiple roles, so they form the Ensemble as well. This retro-modern treatment of Sondheim's popular opera makes salient points about who are the most fragile and disenfranchised people of a community and the destructive powers of a personal agenda.

The Lyric Hammersmith today announces the full cast for Dick Whittington, its 10th anniversary pantomime, which will be getting the full Lyric treatment. You can expect the usual mix of live music, crazy characters, awesome adventure, singing, dancing, villainous baddies and heroic goodies with a little bit of feline flavour chucked in for good measure.

When there is a sick child in a family, says playwright Anne Marilyn Lucas, an entire family revolves around the child's illness.  In 2016 more American lives were taken by drug overdoses than were lost in the Vietnam War, according to the Centers for Disease Control, and deaths increased by 10.7%, to 72,000, the following year.
