Next Theatre Company is proud to announce the second production in their 2010-2011 What's Next Series with James Andrew Zoccoli's Wiggerlover [white boy + black dad = grey areas directed by Andrea Fears, September 23 - October 2, 927 Noyes Street in Evanston. Zoccoli performs in his semi-autobiographical work telling the story of his desire as a half-Italian, half-Polish to be all black when his white mother gets remarried to an African-American man. Next Theatre also adds ETTY to the roster of the What's Next Series, October 7 - 10. Beginning September 23, The Human Race Theatre Company and Wright State University Theatre are engaging in a unique collaboration to present Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning comedy/drama masterpiece August: Osage County.
Why would someone even want to revive this show? It's insufferably long. It clocks in at three hours, not counting an intermission. If I'm dedicating three hours of my life to your play, I hope you're Eugene O'Neill. Secondly, Wilson's characters are damaged beyond empathy. (Think Tracy Letts without the charm.) They also completely lack dimension. Openly-gay Wilson actually made the character of Larry, a homosexual, a complete and utter punch line. You can argue that Burn This could be an exercise in 'phoning it in.'
Producer Daryl Roth announces that following a sold out developmental run last spring, THE DIVINE SISTER, the new comedy written by and starring Charles Busch, directed by Carl Andress, will transfer to the SoHo Playhouse (15 Vandam Street) featuring the entire original company: Alison Fraser, Amy Rutberg, Jennifer Van Dyck, Jonathan Walker, and Julie Halston.
Tracy Letts' masterpiece, August: Osage County, has won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, multiple Tony awards and accolades around the world, including Time magazine's declaration that it's The Play of the Decade. Now, in its regional premiere, August has accomplished something that never happened before - a collaboration between Dayton's own professional theatre company, The Human Race, and Wright State Theatre on a production at Wright State's Festival Theatre.

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced that The Old Globe, in partnership with KPBS, will host a special screening of 'The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!,' a new animated television series airing on the PBS KIDS programming block on KPBS-TV and designed to support science learning for preschoolers. The free event will take place on Monday, September 6 in the Old Globe Theatre. All children in attendance will receive complimentary goody bags and may have their photos taken with The Cat in the Hat himself.
