Master Banjo Player Scott Vestal Wins Steve Martin Prize For Excellence In Banjo And Bluegrass

Banjo player extraordinaire Scott Vestal is the 2017 recipient of the 8thAnnual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass. Grammy Nominee Peter Wernick, known as Dr. Banjo, presented Vestal with the award on stage at the 45th Annual Rocky Grass Festival in Lyons, CO this past Saturday after Vestal's performance with the Sam Bush Bluegrass Band. Previously the recipient of the Banjo Player of the Year in 1996 by the International Bluegrass Music Association, Vestal is an in-demand session player who has engineered, produced, and played on various award-winning instrumental recordings.

BWW Review: Stars Shine for Lyrical Tribute to Music and Legacy of Pete Seeger at Kennedy Center

For one night, folk music legend Pete Seeger's legacy in song was celebrated by a diverse array of musical talent. The Kennedy Center Concert Hall stage held a who's who including multiple Grammy winners, living legends and up-and-coming artists performing in tribute to the singer and activist Pete Seeger. Hosted by Larry Groce of National Public Radio's MOUNTAIN STAGE, the long and satisfying evening was officially entitled PETE SEEGER AND THE POWER OF SONG: TRIBUTE TO A FOLK LEGEND. No frills, no fuss, just great music performed with the same simplicity and power Seeger was known for during his own long career.

DePue Brothers Band to Bring 'A Magical Grassical Christmas' to Sellersville Theater, Today

The highly respected and multi-talented DePue Brothers Band will brighten the Sellersville holiday stage with their show "A Magical Grassical Christmas" today December 11 at 8 p.m. The Philly-based band will incorporate many songs from their holiday-themed CD When It's Christmas Time, which combines their classical roots with blue grass, jazz, rock, fusion and more. The Arts at Millersville University and Harrisburg native, jazz pianist and composer, Steve Rudolph will present The Jost Project with Special Guest Drummer Marko Marcinko as part of the Ware Center's popular Jazz in the Sky series in the Owen Salon overlooking Prince Street tonight, October 9 at 7:30 PM. The band includes vibraphonist Tony Miceli, vocalist/harmonist Paul Jost, and bassist Kevin MacConnell.  Devoted to presenting innovative arrangements of classic rock in a jazz format, The Jost Project plays the music of the 60's and 70's. According to Jazz in Europe, "The Jost Project is, without a doubt, one of the most creative bands I have heard in years."
