Broadway Theatre Project (BTP), which has spent the past two decades helping thousands of young, aspiring actors, singers and dancers to realize their potential in the performing arts, gets a taste of another vehicle with a similar purpose, FOX's American Idol, when the television series' Associate Musical Director, Michael Orland, and Vocal Coach, Peisha McPhee, visit the Tampa-based summer musical theatre intensive this summer.

Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman announced the festival's 2012 season, which offers more than 100 separate events exemplifying most musical genres, including the 77th residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Los Angeles-based Grammy Award winning songwriter Mike Stoller and his wife, pianist, harpist and singer, Corky Hale Stoller, will appear as the inaugural guests kicking off a new "In Conversation" Speaker Series at the Museum at Eldridge Street; 12 Eldridge Street (between Canal and Division Streets); New York, NY 10022, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The Series is part of an ongoing 125th Anniversary celebration of Jewish life and culture in the museum's landmark home, the 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue.

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts will present Tony Bennett: Live In Concert as part of the continuing series Marcus Center Presents. Granted, Babes in Hollywood isn't for all theater audiences-although, frankly, it should be…what's with you people?-and you'll certainly love it more if you're at least somewhat informed about the Garland/Rooney film oeuvre or the legendarily close relationship the two young stars forged as children and continued throughout their lives. Although that friendship was abruptly ended in 1969 when Garland died in London (I remember reading the news in the Memphis Press-Scimitar as a sixth grader), I've no doubt Mickey Rooney still has conversations with his old pal, somewhere within the recesses of his memory and his heart.

Tony has graciously donated the new painting to the Louis Armstrong House Museum, to be auctioned off on Charitybuzz.com, the leading destination for online charity auctions, to raise funds for the Museum. The oil painting depicts Armstrong performing on his gold-plated Selmer trumpet. In the lower right corner is Bennett's signature, "Benedetto."
