East West Players Announce ENCOUNTER, 9/6-10/6

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, opens its 47th Anniversary season, themed Spirited Away, with the critically-acclaimed dance theatre production ENCOUNTER. Previews run September 6-9, and the performance run continues through October 6, 2012.

Olympic Story THREE YEAR SWIM CLUB Returns By Popular Demand At East West Players, Through 8/19

The popular and critically-acclaimed production THREE YEAR SWIM CLUB has returned to East West Players (EWP) for a second run. This play is inspired by the true life story of legendary swim coach Soichi Sakamoto, who trained Maui youth for the Olympics in the plantation irrigation ditches. Set on the island of Maui in the 1930's, this heartwarming play turns transcendent as the art of hula becomes the metaphor for competitive swimming.

Panelists Announced for ANMT's Musical Theatre Writers Conference 2012, 7/20-22

The Fourth Bi-Annual conference for musical theatre writers and composers is coming to Los Angeles, July 20-22 at the NoHo Arts Center in North Hollywood, CA. Confirmed panelists include: Cheri Steinkellner (the Tony Award-nominated writer of Sister Act), Paul Gordon (Tony Award-nominated lyricist/composer of Jane Eyre); Michael Jung (Disney Theatricals); Michael Shapiro (Kensington Entertainment), Michael Kerker (ASCAP Director of Musical Theatre); David Elzer (award-winning producer of The Marvelous Wonderettes); Tim Dang (Producing Artistic Director of East West Players, the nation's premiere Asian American theatre company); Gordon Firemark (CEO of Fierce Theatricals) and more!

East West Players’ A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC Extends Run 2 Weeks Through June 24

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, has joined in community partnership with Academy for New Musical Theatre (ANMT) and the LA Opera Education and Community Programs. "We are very excited to partner with ANMT and the LA Opera for this production," says EWP producing artistic director Tim Dang. "The goal of this community partnership is to bring greater awareness of the missions of our respective organizations, all of which are connected to promoting the performing arts, and what better way than through musical theatre."

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, announces its 47th Anniversary Season, along with the return of THREE YEAR SWIM CLUB. This season, themed Spirited Away, includes the multidisciplinary ENCOUNTER by S.M. Raju and Aparna Sindhoor, the newly-reimagined TEA by Velina Hasu Houston, the world premiere of CHRISTMAS IN HANOI by Eddie Borey, and the Broadway musical CHESS, music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus Ulvaeus & lyrics by Tim Rice.

Kimora Lee Simmons will be honored by East West Players at the 46th Anniversary Visionary Awards taking place on April 30th, 2012 at the Universal Hilton. As a fashion and entertainment leader of Korean, Japanese and African American ancestry, she has raised the visibility of Asian Pacific Americans as trendsetters on a global scale.

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, celebrates its 46th Season, themed "Languages of Love," with its captivating Anniversary Visionary Awards Dinner & Silent Auction, and salutes those who have made a valuable impact on the Asian Pacific American (APA) community through their artistic excellence and support of the Asian Pacific American performing arts. The acclaimed fundraising event will take place on Monday April 30, 2012 at the Universal Hilton. Proceeds from the gala will benefit East West Players' educational and artistic programs.

East West Players’ THREE YEAR SWIM CLUB Partners with Honolulu Theatre for Youth

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, continues its 46h Anniversary season. Themed Languages of Love, the third production of the season carries on with the Mainland Premiere of THREE YEAR SWIM CLUB by Lee Tonouchi. This production is directed and choreographed by Keo Woolford and produced in association with Honolulu Theatre for Youth. The cast of the production features Jared Asato, Kelsey Chock, Aaron Ikeda, John Galmiche, Kaliko Kauahi, Blake Kushi, Mapuana Makia, and Chris Takemoto-Gentile.
