NYCB Launches New York City Ballet Moves, Debuts 7/31

Peter Martins, Ballet Master in Chief of the New York City Ballet, announced today that the Company will launch a new performance group called New York City Ballet Moves during the summer of 2011. Consisting of a small group of artists from the full company, New York City Ballet Moves will provide an opportunity to showcase NYCB's dancers and repertory in venues that might not be able to present the full company for financial or technical reasons. Martins will select a rotating group of performers from NYCB's roster of dancers and musicians to participate in the group's engagements.

Yesterday June 2, the 2010 World Science Festival Opening Night Gala took place at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City. The event united singers, dancers, actors, and scientists on stage in a salute to the world of science. The night was specifically honoring physicist Stephen Hawking for his achievements in the scientific field. Stephen Hawking is best known for his revolutionary breakthroughs on black holes and the universe as a whole. BroadwayWorld brings coverage of the event below.

Current cast members of SOUTH PACIFIC, Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara, cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, and John Lithgow are among the performers scheduled for the lineup at The World Science Festival's opening night-gala, June 2 at Alice Tully Hall. The opening-night celebration will feature the cast of Broadway's SOUTH PACIFIC singing 'Derivative Song' and 'Galaxy Song'. Kelli O'Hara, who originated the role of Nelli Forbush in the SOUTH PACIFIC revival, will perform 'Stardust'. Finally, in the second half of the gala, David Henry Hwang will present his world premiere play, based on a children's book written by Brian Green. Tony Award winner John Lithgow will narrate.
