Light Opera Works Announces Fall Schedule

Light Opera Works' 2010 season continues in the fall with Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's, I DO! I DO! (October 3-November 14) on the Second Stage, and Jerry Herman's HELLO, DOLLY! (December 26-January 2) on the mainstage.

All that was missing was an ice cold can of beer in my hand as I sat back in my folding beach chair and took in the sights as I imagined the ocean waves of Coney Island crashing in the distance.  No wait... maybe that was really the sound of the crashing waters of Niagara Falls.  Or was I at The Alamo?  And what exactly is this Rock City that all the barn rooftops say I should be seeing?

Transport Group Extends SEE ROCK CITY & OTHER DESTINATIONS Thru 8/14

Transport Group (TG), the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and 2007 and 2010 OBIE Awards, has announced that its production of the New York premiere of See Rock City & Other Destinations, music by Brad Alexander; book and lyrics by Adam Mathias; directed by Artistic Director Jack Cummings III, will extend one week through Saturday, August 14 at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street® project, 229 West 42nd Street.

OUR TOWN to Close 9/12, McKean & Cromer Return

Producers Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian and Tom Wirtshafter announced today the record-breaking production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town at the Barrow Street Theatre will play its final performance on Sunday evening, September 12th.

Westport Playhouse Hosts Perfect Proposal Contest for I DO! I DO!, Entries Due 8/10

In conjunction with Westport Country Playhouse's upcoming production of 'I Do! I Do!,' the joyful and touching musical about marriage, the theater is hosting 'The Perfect Proposal Contest.' Participants are requested to write, in 300 words or less, how they were asked, or asked someone else, to say, 'I Do!' Photos are welcomed, but not required. Deadline for entries is Tuesday, August 10, noon.

HAPPY DAYS Ends Run Westport Country Playhouse 7/24

Jack Wetherall will join the previously announced Dana Ivey in 'Happy Days' by Samuel Beckett, July 6 - 24, as part of the 80th Anniversary Season at Westport Country Playhouse. Directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director, the production is the third in the Playhouse's premier season under Lamos' artistic direction. Lamos will speak about Beckett's inspiring play at a Sunday Symposium on Sunday, July 11, following the 3 p.m. matinee performance.

THE OLDEST PROFESSION, IPH Highlight Brava Theatre 2010-11 Season

Brava enters its 3rd season under the direction of Artistic Director, Raelle Myrick-Hodges, with exciting experiments including new work development, premieres and new collaborations. Brava Theater, located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission district, is gearing up for its 2010-2011 season with a series of seldom produced works, premieres and innovative outlandish projects. The upcoming season includes a tribute to Stonewall's 40th Anniversary with Come As You Are; the Regional Premiere of Colin Teevan's Iph, an adaptation of Euripides' Iphigenia at Aulis; a radio play with a killer ending directed by Meiyin Wang; a presentation of works by curated international choreographer Joe Goode; the regional premiere of Paula Vogel's The Oldest Profession and a series of New Work Development to combat the female playwright syndrome noted by writer Marsha Norman in the feature American Theater article Not There Yet. What will it take to achieve equality for women in the theatre?
