Resorts World Manila's (RWM) Full House Theater Company will hold open auditions this Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10, for its seventh major production, the hit Broadway musical ANNIE, which is set to premiere in September at RWM's Newport Performing Arts Theatre.
Tisch New Theatre will present HAIRSPRAY, the musical based on the 1988 film written and directed by John Waters, April 1-4 at the NYU Skirball Center. Today in 1997, Annie opened at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 239 performances. Annie is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and the book by Thomas Meehan. The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, setting a record for the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre). It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical's songs 'Tomorrow' and 'It's the Hard-Knock Life' are among its most popular musical numbers.
According to the Washington Post, the national touring cast of ANNIE got heckled this week at DC's National Theatre. The heckler attended the show Tuesday night, and is said to have yelled, 'That was terrible!' from his seat, following the number 'We'd Like to Thank You Herbert Hoover.' There were no reported reactions from the cast or the other audience members during the incident.
Full casting was announced today for In The Secret Sea, a new American play by Cate Ryan (The Picture Box) and directed by Tony Award© winner Martin Charnin (Annie). Today, producer Mark Goucher has confirmed that following the phenomenal success of the current UK tour, the new production of Hairspray will return at the end of summer 2017 to once again tour the UK. This second tour of the smash hit musical will visit venues across the country until the spring of 2018. Casting, dates and locations for the 2017/18 tour will be announced in due course.
