According to The Hollywood Reporter, DOWNTON ABBEY's Laura Carmichael has signed on for Sophie Barthes' upcoming film adaptation of MADAME BOVARY. She'll star opposite Paul Giamatti, Mia Wasikowska, Ezra Millerand Rhys Ifans. Logan Marshall-Green and Olivier Gourmet have also recently boarded the project.
The film stars Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby, Drive), Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, Bullhead), Michael Sheen (Midnight in Paris, Frost/Nixon), Tom Sturridge (Tony Nominee for 'Orphans', On the Road, Pirate Radio) and Juno Temple.

50 SHADES! THE MUSICAL first spurt onto the solar plexus of the music theater scene on August 22, 2012 during the 2012 Edinburg Fringe Festival. Edging past SPANK! THE FIFTY SHADES PARODY by premiering about two months before its competition, 'The Original Parody' has received glowing reviews in Edinburg, Chicago, New York City, and the other markets the show has played. With a sturdy and somewhat ravenous fan base, recording a cast album was definitely a logical progression. As this musical will soon be playing in my neck of the woods, I was excited to get a chance to experience the music from the show. As I listened to the songs, I found them entertaining but not highly memorable.

Burning Coal Theatre Company has announced that Jonathan Fitts, a recent graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, will conduct its 2013 Summer Theatre Conservatory for Teens in July. This spring, Thomas Hampson's U.S. engagements take him from opera house to concert and recital hall, and from Verdi and Mahler to the latest in contemporary American composition. The baritone makes his company role debut as Iago in Otello at the Metropolitan Opera (March 11) and premieres new chamber works by Michael Hersch (Feb 26) and Mark Adamo (April 24), before touring the latter to the Boston Celebrity Series (April 26) and New York's Lincoln Center (April 28). Besides singing songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the Indianapolis Symphony (Feb 22-23), his orchestral collaborations also take him back to Europe to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in a star-studded gala benefit (April 10) and reprise the title role of Simon Boccanegra with the Vienna Symphony, in a concert performance that will be recorded for future album release (April 13 & 17).

The album features The Heart of the Matter, a song cycle for tenor, narrator, horn, and piano, performed here by renowned actor Alan Cumming, as well as the principal hornist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Jennifer Montone, and pianist Myra Huang, Phan's long-time recital partner.
