Photo Flash: First Look at Walkabout Theater's Outdoor Spectacle TALL GIRL AND THE LIGHTNING PARADE

Walkabout Theater Company is pleased to celebrate summer with TALL GIRL AND THE LIGHTNING PARADE, an interactive, outdoor parade and performance spectacle featuring over 30 multi-disciplinary artists - performed in both Spanish and English and perfect for the entire family. Five free performances will be presented August 16, August 23-24 and August 26-27, 2016 at unique outdoor venues across the City, primarily through the Chicago Park District's 'Night Out in the Parks' series. Walkabout Theater Company, in association with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, is pleased to present THE CURE, a new ensemble-devised work exploring our relationship with disease, resilience and our pursuit of immortality. Commissioned text by Emma Stanton is fused with interwoven narratives of movement, music, group choreography and funerary rites that investigate the fatigue of hope in the face of profound grief. Directed by Co-Artistic Director Kendra Miller with movement by Co-Artistic Director Thom Pasculli, THE CURE will play June 1 - 18, 2016 at The Sidney R. Yates Gallery at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. in Chicago. All performances are free to the public. Advance reservations can be made at walkabouttheater.org/the-cure. THE PLAY ABOUT MY DAD, by Boo Killebrew, which opened at New York's 59E59 Theatres in June 2011, tells of the author's father, a doctor in Gulfport, Mississippi who stayed behind to take care of patients as Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005. The play will be performed in Raven's intimate West Stage space. The production officially opens tonight, October 27, and runs through November 28, 2015. Raven Theatre to Present THE PLAY ABOUT MY DAD

The Play About My Dad by Boo Killebrew, which opened at New York's 595 E 59 Theatres in June 2011, tells of the author's father, a doctor in Gulfport, Mississippi who stayed behind to take care of patients as the storm hit in August 2005. New Orleans, as the largest city to be hit by the storm, appropriately received most of the media attention, but Katrina's effects on the Gulf Coast were devastating. Many coastal towns were destroyed, 235 people were killed and more than one million Mississippians were affected.

The Theatre School at DePaul University is pleased to present The Duchess of Malfi, by John Webster, on the Fullerton Stage Theatre at The Theatre School at DePaul University. The production, directed by Lavina Jadhwani, premieres on Friday, April 17, and runs through Sunday, April 26, 2015. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews are on April 15 and 16, at 7:30 PM.

Oracle to Open 2015 with CIRCLE-MACHINE

Following an award-winning year of free theatre, Oracle Productions eagerly opens Season 5 of Public Access Theatre with CIRCLE-MACHINE, a world premiere adaptation of FULL CIRCLE by Charles Mee, directed by Thom Pasculli. This frenzied new production is adapted by Emma Stanton, Nigel O'Hearn and Thom Pasculli, and features original music by Jeff Award-winning composer, Nicholas Tonozzi. CIRCLE-MACHINE opens January 24, 2015, and runs through March 14, 2015 at Oracle Theatre (3809 N. Broadway in Chicago). Performances are Friday, Saturday and Monday nights at 8PM; Sundays at 7PM. Press are invited to attend on January 24 - or any night during the run.

Non-Equity Jeff Awards are Announced

The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 128 nominations in 24 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 147 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 66 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty theatre companies received nominations.

Performances of Steppenwolf Theatre Company's fifth annual Garage Rep kicked off last month, featuring Walkabout Theater Company's world-premiere production of The Wild and more. These innovative storefront companies perform in rotating repertory for ten weeks through April 20, 2013 (press performances are March 8 and 9, 2014).
