Vassar & New York Stage and Film is pleased to announce the casts for the free Readings Festival 1 (June 25 - 27), which opens the 26th annual Powerhouse Theater season on the Vassar campus.

Powerhouse Theater, a unique collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film, will enter its second quarter-century this summer, continuing its mission to offer a haven for world-class artists to gather and explore new material in an atmosphere that is both protected and challenging.

A world premiere, fully-staged production by John Patrick Shanley, the first professional production for playwright Tracy Thorne, and the newest musical project from the multi-award winning director Michael Mayer will be just a few of the many highlights of Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater season, June 25 - August 1, 2010.

Stephanie J. Block (Drama desk nomination for 9 to 5, Wicked, The Boy From Oz) will join Gretchen Bieber (Hairspray), Joel Blum (Two-time TONY nominee, Steel Pier, Showboat), Rebecca Eichenberger (Phantom of the Opera, Carousel), Jonathan Kaplan (Diary of Anne Frank, Theatre World Award, Tony nomination for Falsettos), Erik Liberman (Lovemusik), Lindsay Northen (Wicked), Noah Weisberg(Enron, South Pacific )and Lee Zarrett (Hair) for an industry reading of a new musical MY AMERICAN FAMILY .

Double Crown restaurant's Chef de Cuisine, Christopher Rendell, joins forces with playwrights Theresa Rebeck (Pulitzer Finalist for Omnium Gatherum; Mauritius), Rob Ackerman (the Drama Desk Award-winning Tabletop), and Tony® nominee Douglas Carter Beane (for Xanadu; To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar) to create an original three-course menu inspired by their world premiere plays.

Josh Charles ('The Good Wife,' 'In Treatment'), Ann Harada (AVENUE Q, 9 TO 5), Jason Tam (A CHORUS LINE, LES MISERABLES) and Katie Kreisler (NOISES OFF, OUR HOUSE) will star in 'Eating Their Words' benefit event for The Chase Brock Experience dance company on Monday, June 21st at Double Crown restaurant at 316 Bowery. For this unique evening, Double Crown's Chef de Cuisine, Christopher Rendell, joins forces with playwrights Theresa Rebeck (Pulitzer Finalist for OMNIUM GATHERUM; MAURITIUS), Rob Ackerman (the Drama Desk Award-winning TABLETOP), and Tony® nominee Douglas Carter Beane (for XANADU; THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHTED; screenwriter, 'To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything,' 'Julie Newmar') to create an original three-course menu inspired by their world premiere plays. Produced by Eating Their Words, the unprecedented innovator of events that wed seasoned chefs, award-winning playwrights and notable actors for a synthesis of the performing and culinary arts, the evening's proceeds will support the creation of two premiere dances in The Chase Brock Experience dance company's summer season. Manhattan Theatre Club (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) is pleased to announce the lineup for this spring's Ernst C. Stiefel '7@7' Reading Series. The Ernst C. Stiefel Foundation has supported Manhattan Theatre Club's reading series since 2006.

The Samuel French, Inc. Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival announces the 40 semi-finalists for its 35th annual season. Chosen from hundreds of submissions by playwriting workshops, university theatre programs, and professional companies both in the U.S. and abroad, these 40 plays will be presented July 13th - 18th at the Lion Theatre in Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street). Out of these plays, six finalists will be chosen by the Samuel French, Inc. editorial staff to receive publication and licensing contracts.
