Gamm's 'A Night at the Fights' Reveals Stage Combat Tricks of the Trade

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) is pleased to present a special engagement of A Night at the Fights with professional fight masters Normand Beauregard (Gamm resident fight master) and Jim Beauregard. This behind-the-scenes look at the how and why of hand-to-hand and multi-weaponed stage combat will be performed in conjunction with The Bard's Brawls, a series of middle- and high-school matinees highlighting fight scenes from some of William Shakespeare's best-known plays.

A Night at the Fights and The Bard's Brawls run from March 3-13 only (see calendar of performances below) in the Pawtucket Armory Drill Hall, 172 Exchange St., Pawtucket, RI. About A Night At The Fights
The magic of creating murder and mayhem on stage, from barroom brawls to Shakespearean sword fights, is revealed in this special series of action-packed evenings. The brother team of Gamm Resident Fight Master Normand Beauregard and Fight Master Jim Beauregard demonstrate the illusion of punches, kicks, slashes, and bashes, and share the tricks of the trade to surviving all that violence without a scratch!

About Normand Beauregard
Norm has worked with The Gamm Theatre for over 10 years as both resident fight master and an actor. His most recent credits include Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck, and Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet. He worked as fight master for Kit Marlow at The Public Theater in New York City (dir. Brian Kulick) and fight assistant for Dracula: The Musical on Broadway. He directed fights for Trinity Rep productions of Angels in America, Part II Perestroika; The Illusion; The Return of Don Quixote; A Preface to the Alien Garden and As You Like It. Norm was the founding artistic director of the Cumberland Company for the Performing Arts, where he staged 11 seasons of epic action sequences featuring a cast of over 200. Norm has taught and choreographed fight scenes for colleges and universities throughout New England. He also works as a professional stunt coordinator for independent films.

About Jim Beauregard
Jim is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance and Technical Director of the Center for the Performing Arts at Dean College in Franklin, Mass. Jim has served as a Co-Vice Chair for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region I. At Dean, he has directed numerous productions, including Pirates of Penzance, The Crucible, The Three Musketeers, Much Ado About Nothing, Victims of Paradise, Scapino!, My Father Never Prepared Me For This, and The Country Wife. Jim is founder and director of Dean College Summer Outdoor Theatre. Jim toured for many seasons with the Cumberland Company for the Performing Arts teaching master classes in stage combat and also as a performer. He is a founding member of New England Fight Directors. In addition, Jim has served as associate artistic director and a principal performer at The Medieval Manor theater-restaurant, Boston's longest-running show.
