With the end of 2013 fast creeping up upon us, it is time to look at some of the productions that appeared on stage in South Africa during the past 12 months. Today's column focuses on original South African theatre.

Oxford Film Festival has announced a one-night only theatrical Mississippi premiere of James Franco's 'As I Lay Dying' with special guests' producer Lee Caplin and executive producer Heidi Jo Markel this Monday, Oct. 21 at the historic Lyric Theatre on the Square in Oxford.

Broadway producer and Sag Harbor community local Stewart Lane has been cast as Eronius in Bay Street Theatre's presentation of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, beginning August 6 and running through September 1. The show stars Peter Scolari with Conrad John Schuck and Jackie Hoffman. The book is by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart with lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim; music direction by Ethyl Will; and directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge.

After two prior sellout shows at The Cabaret, Deb Mullins is back again! Her new show, Bluesville features songs from the Delta to Broadway and Bessie Smith to Cassandra Wilson.

Esteemed opera diva Aviva Pelham, recounts her 95 year old mother's fascinating tale of survival through song in SANTA'S STORY which returns to the Fugard Studio Theatre in Cape Town by popular demand from today, 14 to 26 May 2013 for a limited season. The production has also been invited to Helsinki in October.
