Debbie Allen Dance Academy Wins 7th Annual Goldstar National Nutcracker Award

Goldstar, the world's biggest ticket booth, has announced the winner of the 7th Annual Goldstar National Nutcracker Award: Debbie Allen Dance Academy, The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker at Royce Hall at UCLA in Los Angeles, which competed with nearly 60 other productions of The Nutcracker across the country. In addition to receiving "The Nutty" statuette, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker will receive a cash prize to benefit the organization's education programs, as well as the honor of being declared 'the best-loved Nutcracker in the U.S.'

Craig Bierko, who began performances on September 17 in the role of Miss Trunchbull in Matilda The Musical, has temporarily exited the show due to an injury. A show representative told NYT: 'Due to a shoulder injury which delayed his start in 'Matilda the Musical' and which has been aggravated during performance, Craig Bierko will be taking a 12-week disability leave from the production. At this time, understudies Chris Hoch and Ben Thompson will be playing Miss Trunchbull.'

Though farce was supposedly started in the 13th century, the modern tone for this format, which is highlighted by the works of the likes of The Three Stooges, The Marx Brothers, The Keystone Cops, Lucille Ball, Tim Conway and Carol Burnett, was etched by Moliere, a Frenchman, and is best represented by his TARTUFFE.

Craig Bierko will begin performances tonight in the role of Miss Trunchbull in MATILDA THE MUSICAL at Broadway's Shubert Theatre. Bierko was originally scheduled to begin on September 3, but a minor injury caused a delay. Since Tony nominee Bertie Carvel departed on September 1, the role was played by Chris Hoch.
