IN THE HEIGHTS National Tour Wows in Tampa; First Reviews In

On Tuesday, Kyle Beltran, Rogelio Douglas Jr., Natalie Toro and Shaun Taylor-Corbett kicked off the National Tour of IN THE HEIGHTS in Tampa, Floria at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center with a bang. Though most shows try desperately to keep the critics out during the first preview performances to work out any kinks, IN THE HEIGHTS was an exception, according to Tampa Bay Online. And boy, were they pleased.

The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center will present the World Premiere of Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. The production will debut in Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 in TBPAC's Ferguson Hall, the music for Wonderland is by Frank Wildhorn, the composer of The Civil War and Jekyll & Hyde, with book and lyrics by Jack Murphy. Gregory Boyd, artistic director of Houston's Alley Theatre, will direct. Rehearsals have begun and you can see the first pictures direct from the studio hall right here on BWW!

TBPAC's Bank of America Best of Broadway Tampa Bay Series To Feature IN THE HEIGHTS & More In 2009-2010 Season

The Bank of America Best of Broadway Tampa Bay series includes In the Heights, the 2008 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical; South Pacific, the 2008 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical Revival; Little House on the Prairie starring television icon Melissa Gilbert; the spectacle of Cirque Dreams Illumination and the family favorite Mary Poppins. The series will also include Godspell produced by TBPAC, the world premiere of the new musical Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure and the eagerly anticipated return of Wicked.

Wildhorn's Dacal Led WONDERLAND Premieres at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts Tonight, 12/5

The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center is delighted to announce that casting is now complete for Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. Slated to have its world premiere in Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 in TBPAC's Ferguson Hall, with Gregory Boyd, artistic director of Houston's Alley Theatre, directing. The music for Wonderland is from composer Frank Wildhorn (The Civil War and Jekyll & Hyde) with lyrics by Jack Murphy (The Civil War) and a book by Murphy and Boyd. Wonderland is the first initiative of the Broadway Genesis Project at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Broadway Genesis is intended to help create new works of American theater to play the Tampa market, and then possibly tour other performing arts centers or move to Broadway.

185 apprentices from 28 states, as well as Canada and American Samoa, will be performing in the Broadway Theatre Project Festival from July 30-August 1. Numbers in the four festival performances have been directed and choreographed by members of the BTP faculty including Artistic Director Debra McWaters, So You Think You Can Dance's Ryan Kasprzak, Radio City Rockette Kelly King, among others.

Wildhorn's WONDERLAND Announces New Members Of Creative Team For Tampa Premiere

The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center today announces several additions to the creative team for Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. According to producer Judith Lisi, president and CEO of TBPAC, Marguerite Derricks will choreograph the production and Ron Melrose will serve as music supervisor and provide vocal and dance arrangements as well as incidental music. Susan Hilferty, Neil Patel and Paul Gallo will design the costumes, sets and lights respectively, while Jon Weston will design the sound and Sven Ortel will design video and projections.

'HEIGHTS' Star Dacal Is 'Alice' In Wildhorn's WONDERLAND At Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center

Tampabay.com reports the news that IN THE HEIGHTS star Janet Dacal will play the leading role of Alice in the upcoming Wonderland, the Frank Wildhorn musical which is inspired by Alice in Wonderland and is slated to premiere at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in December. Other casting for the musical includes Karen Mason, Nikki Snelson and Eugene Fleming.
