Ancient and Modern Classics Take the Stage at Citizens Theatre This Spring

The Citizens Theatre today announces its complete Spring 2016 Season, including a trilogy of new plays by Zinnie Harris, inspired by the epic Greek tragedy The Oresteia. The season also includes a new production of Frank McGuinness' classic play Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Battle of The Somme and a new production of Beckett's iconic play Endgame featuring David Neilson and Chris Gascoyne.

The RSC brings Shakespeare's 400th anniversary year in Stratford to a close with a powerful programme, matching two major Shakespeare titles with two irreverent Jacobean comedies and a new play from Anders Lustgarten, which plays out across 400 years between Caravaggio's Naples and the housing estates of Bootle.

RSC Announces Cast of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

The Royal Shakespeare Company today announces the professional actors cast in the national tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream, leading the RSC's celebrations for the Shakespeare anniversary year in 2016. This national celebration of Shakespeare will visit each region and nation of the UK. In each area the 18-strong professional company will be joined by local amateur theatre companies who will play the Mechanicals and schoolchildren who will form part of Titania's fairy train. Playing opposite the 14 amateur Bottoms cast from across the country, Ayesha Dharker will take on the role of Titania, Queen of the Fairies.

Today, on Midsummer's Day, the Royal Shakespeare Company is delighted to announce the 14 amateur theatre groups who will play the Mechanicals alongside a company of professional actors in the national tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Led by Deputy Artistic Director Erica Whyman, the RSC's creative team have travelled 2360 miles to audition 586 amateur theatre makers in 95 workshops. The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) previously announced that Gregory Doran's production of Arthur Miller's 1949 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Death of a Salesman would transfer to the Noel Coward Theatre in London's West End, following its run in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The run opens tonight 13 May and plays through 18 July 2015.

RSC Sets Shakespeare Song Competition Finalists, Public Voting Now Open

Today the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announces the seven finalists and opens the public vote for the Shakespeare Birthday Song Competition. 100 entries were received from UK professional and amateur composers, who all created a new musical composition, setting the words from one of Shakespeare's much loved songs to music.
