New York theatre stuck it to the patriarchy this year with healthy-for-the-soul offerings like A 24 Decade History of Popular Music, O, Earth, The Wolves, and more!

The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York, New York City's leading service and advocacy organization for nonprofit theatre, today announced that Tony Award-winning actor Billy Porter will host the official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the A.R.T./NEW YORK THEATRES on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 beginning at 10:30am and located at 502 West 53rd Street.

On Saturday January 28, cult-hit Brooklyn rockers Sky-Pony will hit the stage at The Sheen Center as part of its Convergences series.

Led by Founding Producer Kate Loewald, The Play Company (PlayCo) has a unique commitment to premiering work from around the world to advance a dynamic, international experience of contemporary theater in New York. That tradition continues this Spring with the U.S. English language premiere of Guillermo Calderon's Villa (March 1-April 1).

The New Group announces additional casting for productions coming up in the company's 2016-2017 Season.

Following its recent critically acclaimed premier at the North Carolina Stage Company this past May, BNW DEVELOPMENTAL, LLC will present a private developmental reading of BRAVE NEW WORLD: THE MUSICAL in Midtown Manhattan early December 2016.   

The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York, New York City's leading service and advocacy organization for nonprofit theatre, today announced its initial roster of programming through June 2017 - to be presented by 11 nonprofit companies - at its new A.R.T./NEW YORK THEATRES (the Gural and Mezzanine), two affordable, state-of-the-art performance spaces located at 502 West 53rd Street - designed by award-winning architect Toshiko Mori.

A world-premiere play, Among the Dead by Hansol Jung; a world-premiere musical by Michi Barall, Paul Lieber, and Matt Park, PEER GYNT & the Norwegian Hapa Band; and the special presentation of the hit play The Wong Kids in the Secret of the Space Chupacabra Go! by Lloyd Suh in Manila comprise the season to be produced by Ma-Yi Theater Company during their 2016-2017 season, it is announced by the company's Producing Artistic Director Ralph B. Peña and Executive Director Jorge Z. Ortoll. 

BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange will offer the Parent/Artist Space Grant to Juliana May (dance), Aya Ogawa (theater), and Jimena Paz (dance).

The Old Globe today announced the remaining productions in its 2017 Summer Season, including a brand-new comedy, Ken Ludwig's Robin Hood!, and a Summer Shakespeare Festival lineup featuring Robert Sean Leonard in the title role of the towering history play Richard II, directed by Erica Schmidt. Shakespeare's exhilarating tragedy Hamlet follows, directed by Old Globe Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, one of the leading American authorities on the works of Shakespeare.

New Georges will kick off their 25th anniversary season in collaboration with The Sol Project to present the World Premiere of ALLIGATOR, written by Hilary Bettis (The Americans on FX) and directed by Elena Araoz (Dipika Guha's Mechanics of Love with To-By-For Productions; Hook & Eye's She-She in the Ice Factory Festival).

Producer Stuart Thompson announced today that John Guare's critically acclaimed play Six Degrees of Separation will return to Broadway this spring in a revival starring seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney ('Mom,' The Girl on the Train) as Ouisa and Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey (The Normal Heart, 'Manhattan') as Flan. Trip Cullman (Significant Other, Punk Rock) will direct the production, which is set to open at the Barrymore Theatre in April 2017 and will run for 15 weeks only.
