10th Anniversary of Dance Gallery Festival Returns to NYC This Fall

Returning for it's 10th anniversary Season, The Dance Gallery Festival, mentor and launchpad for new choreographic talent since 2007, will return to NYC this fall with more than 30 artists presenting all new work in three distinct and separate programs.

Jodee Nimerichter, Director of the American Dance Festival (ADF), today announced ADF's first New York City season, running August 1-6 at The Joyce Theater. The season includes the New York City debut of Russian choreographer Tatiana Baganova's Provincial Dances Theatre and the return of Miami's Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre with a new ADF commissioned work.

Jacob's Pillow Presents ZviDance & BalletX Next Week

ZviDance returns to Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival with their newest collaborative work Escher/Bacon/Rothko on the Doris Duke Theatre stage, July 20-24. In this riveting mixed-medium choreographic endeavor, Artistic Director Zvi Gotheiner and the company members of ZviDance draw inspiration from distinguished visual artists of the 20th century to question notions of modernity.  Escher/Bacon/Rothko provides an intelligent visual experience for audiences as it seamlessly transforms one-dimensional artwork into a three-dimensional performance.

The Dance Gallery Festival will return to New York this fall for its 10th year, offering opportunity for choreographers and dancers to showcase original work on a NYC stage. Since 2007, the annual Festival has served as mentor and launchpad for new talent and up-and-coming national and international choreographers. All performances will take place Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Manhattan Movement Center, 248 West 60th Street.

Twyla Tharp and Three Dances, the previously announced program conceived and directed by Twyla Tharp and featuring two classics and one premiere, will be presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation for two weeks next month, July 10-23, in its intimate Chelsea home, located at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street. Part of the Pathways to Dance Upstate/Downstate initiative, Twyla Tharp and Three Dances will feature a company of long-time Tharp dancers along with new members.  John Selya, Matthew Dibble, Daniel Baker, Ramona Kelley, Amy Ruggiero, Eva Trapp, Nicholas Coppula, Kaitlyn Gilliland and Reed Tankersley make up the company. On the program are two Tharp classics, Brahms Paganini and Country Dances, and a new work, Beethoven Opus 130, set to Beethoven's Opus of the same title having its world premiere at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on June 30. This presentation, one of the must-see cultural events of the summer, marks the first time Tharp's company will perform on The Joyce's stage in almost 12 years. BWW Dance Review: RIOULT DANCE NY Conjures Shades of Valiant Women

Mr. Rioult is a compelling storyteller. In 'Iphigenia' - which begins with a glimpse of the gruesome future - he confronts the tragedy head on by making it clear that the designated sacrifice is unaware of her fate. Watching Clytemnestra - Charis Haines, who handily walks away with the piece - batter a commanding Brian Flynn as Agamemnon reminds one that there is nothing so frightening as a mother whose child has been threatened.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Workshop to Present Community Dance Workshop Concert at Forum Theatre

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Workshop will present the annual Community Dance Workshop Concert on Sunday, June 19 at 2pm at the Forum Theatre at 314 Main St, Metuchen, NJ 08840.  This recital is open to the public for a suggested donation of $15.  The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Workshop, established in 2012 in response to popular demand from the community, is part of the critically acclaimed Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, led by world-renowned choreographer Nai-Ni, whose work fuses the dynamic freedom of American modern dance with the elegant splendor of Asian art.  Ms. Chen herself develops the curriculum for the Dance Workshop, which is taught by experienced Chinese traditional dance instructors trained at the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy.  Students range from ages seven to seventeen and take weekly classes on Saturdays between 2:30pm and 7:30pm in beginning, intermediate, and advanced traditional Chinese Dance and Modern Dance techniques.  

BWW Preview: RIOULT DANCE NY Astounds in the Open Rehearsal of 'Cassandra's Curse'

In preparation for its upcoming Joyce season, RIOULT Dance NY held an open rehearsal at the Gibney Dance Center at 890 Broadway featuring a run through of the company's upcoming world premiere, 'Cassandra's Curse'. Of course this refers to that doomed prophetess from the Trojan War who - though blessed with foresight - was cursed to never have her predictions believed. In an expansive opening, Artistic Director Pascal Rioult revealed that the piece was inspired by his passion for Euripides' 'The Trojan Women', a play that serves as a wellspring of material for his current artistic period.

Martha Graham Dance Company Sets 2016-17 Season

The Martha Graham Dance Company is pleased to announce its 2016–17 season. The Company's tour kicks off in August and includes performances in 12 cities across the U.S., a performance residency in Madrid, and a weeklong engagement in Cuba, where the Company will perform as part of the renowned Havana International Ballet Festival. The Company's New York season will take place at the Joyce Theater in February 2017. The season also includes six events as part of the Company's popular Graham Studio Series, which offers audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the Company at work in the intimate setting of the Martha Graham Studio Theater.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives.
