BWW Interview: Marilyn Setu, Director of LITTLE WOMEN: THE MUSICAL at The Firehouse Theatre

Thus far, 2018 has proven to be an interesting year for female Americans. As a gender we are banding together behind causes like the #meToo movement; we are shedding light on inequalities when it comes to serious subjects such as consent, recognition, and equal pay. It is shocking the stories of female degradation that are coming forth, and there is still much work to do. One Dallas/Ft. Worth up and coming Director, Marilyn Setu, has recently taken it upon herself to promote fellow female artists by hiring them for her production of Little Women: The Musical at The Firehouse Theatre in Farmers Branch.

BWW Previews: BRIGHT HALF LIFE at TheatreLAB: A Behind-the-Scenes Commentary

Amid the ever-random fronts of varying warm and cold weather patterns, I was fortunate enough one recent, blustery evening to be invited by director Mess Rayford and her small but dexterous team of performers and technical aides to a preview-performance of the Cellar Series' latest theatrical outing, BRIGHT HALF LIFE.

L.I.P. Service Is Listening In 2018

2017 brought so many female stories to the front of our societal consciousness, most notably stories of brave women finding their voices, standing up, supporting each other & breaking the silence. Stories that had been silenced or even ignored for far too long. L.I.P Service Productions continues to stand in support of these women- especially those in the DFW Artist Community. We know that there is more work to do.

LOVE To Open As Part Of New York Theatre Festival- Winterfest

'Love' tells the on-again off-again love story of Scott (Patrick Cannon) and Claire (Ashley Kate Adams). 45 minutes before Claire leaves for the church on her wedding day, Scott arrives to try and convince her that they really are meant to be. A story of lost love, or is it love that never should have been? The story puts the focus on character and performance, and the road to performance strives to do exactly that.

BWW Feature: DFW Fresh Faces of 2017

Our readers have spoken, and the winners of the 2017 BroadwayWorld Awards were announced earlier this week. We are thrilled to support and celebrate each and every one of the winners and nominees, and we're grateful for everyone who participated in the reader's choice voting process. We understand that the arts are not a competitive sport, but we're always happy to acknowledge local artists. This year, rather than picking my own pocketful of favorite performances, I'm exited to instead announce a handful of fresh faces I discovered in 2017 that I'm eager to see back onstage in 2018. Having lived in Dallas a mere three years, I frequently catch performers onstage for my first time, even if they've been long-term staples in our community. Who will I find this year? I can't wait!
