From Harry Kollatz Jr. (senior writer of Richmond magazine and a co-founder of the Firehouse Theatre Project) and Carol Piersol (Artistic Director of 5th Wall Theatre) comes a one-night staged reading of 'The Persistence of Memory.'
Theatre Three will host a special, one-night-only benefit concert to raise money to offset medical expenses for local theatre artist Derek Whitener. The concert will take place on Today, January 24, 2017, at 7:30 PM on Theatre Three's Norma Young Arena Stage. Tickets are free, but a cash donation is suggested. All donations will go directly to Derek Whitener and his family to pay for medical expenses and loss of income. By all accounts, 2016 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. Fortunately for DFW audiences, the local theatre community and many of the touring productions delivered nothing short of a stellar year, setting quite a high bar for upcoming performances. As we say goodbye to another December, we'd like to look back on a handful of memories that stood out among the long list of Playbills we've gathered. And like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these live theatre moments will be remembered as a few of our favorite things. We present this list in no particular order, and without awards or titles bestowed upon those listed. To everyone who contributed to the DFW theatre community in 2016, we thank you for sharing your time and talents with us.

Next up - To Kill A Mockingbird - opens September 9th and runs through the 25th, with preview set for September 8th. The novel, written by Harper Lee, was published in 1960. In the play, adapted by Christopher Sergel, Scout, a young girl in a quiet southern town, is about to experience the dramatic events that will affect the rest of her life. She and her brother, Jem, are being raised by their widowed father, Atticus, and by a strongminded housekeeper, Calpurnia. Wide-eyed Scout is fascinated with the sensitively revealed people of her small town, but, from the start, there's a rumble of thunder just under the calm surface of the life there. The Firehouse Theatre is excited to present this cherished but timely tale.
Karen Lynn Gorney, star of the 1977 movie 'Saturday Night Fever' and 'All My Children,' headlines From Silence, a brand new drama by Anne Marilyn Lucas premiering at Theater for the New City this November. Cast includes Audrey Heffernan Meyer, Krystal Rowley, Lori Funk, Nora Falk, Shannon Harrington, Tori Murray and Jessica Gollin. Additional cast TBA. The production will be directed by Peter Zachari.
Next up at The Firehouse Theatre - Billy Elliot the Musical - a regional premiere - opens July 29th and runs through August 14, with preview set for July 28 th . Book and Lyrics by Lee Hall with Music by Elton John - this show has 10 Tony awards, including Best Musical, to its credit! Set in a northern English mining town against the background of the 1984 miners' strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy's struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Based on the international smash-hit film, this show will encourage audiences to BE YOURSELF.
Next up at The Firehouse Theatre - Red, White & Broadway opens June 30 - ONE WEEKEND ONLY. A Patriotic Musical Celebration starring Noelle Mason, Gregory Hullett, Elisa Danielle James and Peter DiCesare with Special Guest Babakayode Ipaye and a Surprise Artist! Add an ensemble of 30+ singers and dancers plus a 10-Piece Live Band and you have a show that is not to be missed! Red, White & Broadway is written and directed by Rebecca Lowrey and Ben Phillips, choreography by KayLynn Lyon, Ashley Markgraf and Bethany Lorentzen, musical arrangements by Adam Wright and set/lighting design by Elizabeth Lambert.
Next up at The Firehouse Theatre - The Fantasticks opens June 3rd and runs through June 19th. The Fantasticks is a 1960 musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. The show's original off-Broadway production ran a total of 42 years and 17,162 performances, making it the world's longest-running musical. With memorable songs like "Try to Remember" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain", this nostalgic show is not one to miss!
