Royal Shakespeare Company Announces 2014 Season

The Tony Award winning Matilda the Musical welcomes today, September 3, Craig Bierko and Jill Paice to the company as Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey, respectively. Bertie Carvel and Lauren Ward played their final performances in those roles on September 1.

Bertie Carvel and Lauren Ward will play their final performances as Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey, respectively, in MATILDA THE MUSICAL at The Shubert Theatre today. The Tony-nominated pair originated their roles in the West End prior to making the trip across the pond for Broadway's production. Craig Bierko and Jill Paice will join the company on September 3.

The producers of the Tony Award-winning Matilda The Musical announced last week that the original Broadway cast recording will be produced by Michael Croiter and Christopher Nightingale for Broadway Records/Yellow Sound Label and will be released digitally and be available at the Shubert Theatre beginning Friday, September 27, 2013. From 3 September 2013, James Clyde will join the adult company in London as Mr Wormwood, Lisa Davina Phillip as Mrs Phelps and Joshua Wyatt as Michael Wormwood. As previously announced, they will join Olivier Award nominated Canadian actor Alex Gaumond in the role of Miss Trunchbull and Kay Murphy as Mrs Wormwood.

The Tony Award-winning Broadway hit MATILDA THE MUSICAL celebrated its 100th performance on Sunday, July 7, closing out another record-breaking week at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). The production broke a Shubert house record for the fourth week in a row, grossing $1,307,167 over eight performances for the week ending July 7, 2013.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL's performance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” will be rebroadcast on Thursday, July 4. Led by Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull, the cast initially appeared on June 11. “The Late Show” airs on CBS at 11:35 PM (Channel 2 in New York). Check local listings.
