Irondale Brings Brecht Into The New Year With THE LIFE OF GALILEO

Irondale Ensemble, an immersive home for theater, will premiere its 2019 headlining work, The Life of Galileo, February 13-March 9, 2019. Galileo is the first of a 3-part Bertolt Brecht series Brecht in Exile. Mother Courage and Her Children (1943) andThe Good Person of Szechuan (1941) will be presented over the next few seasons.

Another sold out house was achieved for the company's annual 'Playwrights for a Cause' event, this year, benefiting the Ali Forney Center. The banner season culminates with the Planet Awards. Showcase Of New Operas By AOP Emerging Composers And Librettists Announced

This fall, contemporary opera producer AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP) will present COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2018, a showcase concert of opera scenes from nine artists emerging in the world of contemporary opera. Audiences will get a first look at six wildly different new works invoking diverse settings such as the Arab Spring in Tunisia, a post-apocalyptic future, and a modern college campus and exploring a multitude of themes and concepts, including the emotional minefield of solar flares, the dissonance of fundamentalism in urban and regional communities, and the nature and validity of Opera itself. The composers Matt Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Amber Vistein and Alex Weiser, and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, andSokunthary Svay, were chosen by AOP to spend a year creating new works in its bi-annual fellowship program Composers & the Voice (C&V). The evening will be hosted by C&V Artistic Director Steven Osgood.

New Dates For Oscar Wilde's SALOME Announced at Irondale

M-34's world premiere of director James Rutherford's new English translation of Oscar Wilde's SALOME, choreographed by Jess Goldschmidt, will now run October 6 - 27 (instead of 8/25 - 9/15 as previously announced) at Irondale (85 South Oxford St.) in Brooklyn. Opening night is October 10.

 Irondale, Brooklyn's leading theatrical think-tank, with the support of the New York Police Department, has embarked on cycle five of To Protect, Serve, and Understandwith a new crop of diverse participants. The 10-week, 40-hour workshop will run weekly through June 5,culminating in free public performances June 8-9. Through employing tailored theater exercises developed for Irondale's long standing educational initiatives, the program creates a needed dialogue between police and the community they serve to bridge the widening gaps between them.

The She Stands Alone series brings audiences on a roller coaster ride of tragedy, triumphs, grace, and coming of age despite unbelievable circumstances.

AOP (American Opera Projects) and Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood have selected six composers and three librettists to receive fellowships for its upcoming ninth season of Composers & the Voice. The 2017-2019 season will train, and present new works from, composers Matthew Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Liliya Ugay, and Amber Vistein and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, and Sokunthary Svay. The primary focus of Composers & the Voice is to give emerging composers and librettists experience working collaboratively with singers on writing for the voice and contemporary opera stage.
