BWW Review: CFTA's YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Will Have You Laughing All The Way Home

Patrick Kramer's commanding performance as Frederick Frankenstein (that's 'FRONKENsteen' for the uninitiated) in the Center for the Arts' production of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein is reason enough to buy a ticket (if you're lucky enough to score one - shows are playing to capacity crowds in Murfreesboro, so make your reservations yesterday), but director Renee Robinson and musical director Stephen Burnette very adroitly surround him with such strong support that the entire ensemble of Transylvanian thespians is worth the price of admission.

BWW Review: Theatre UCF's YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Shatters Lofty Expectations

Last week, I wrote an article looking at why Central Florida's collegiate theatre programs, and in particular Theatre UCF, consistently produce content at or above the level of local professional theatres. The next night I went to see UCF's production of Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, the musical adaptation of one my favorite films. So, needless to say, as I walked into the theater, my expectations were already exceptionally high. Fortunately for me, and everyone else at the sold-out performance, this incredibly talented cast not only met those expectations, but shattered them.

BWW Reviews: Mel Brooks Musical of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Wicked Fun at DOMA

I revert to childhood when I see a Mel Brooks movie or show. The sillier the better: the sight gags, the double entendres, the more the merrier. The New Mel Brooks Musical, Young Frankenstein is a real rip-roaring hoot of a show from start to finish as produced by DOMA with a great cast and zippy fast-paced direction and fine staging from Marco Gomez.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a 40th anniversary screening of 'Young Frankenstein' with special guests Mel Brooks, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr and executive producer Michael Gruskoff on Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Film historian Leonard Maltin will introduce the comedy classic and host a live onstage discussion with Brooks, Leachman, Garr and Gruskoff.

BWW Reviews: Mel Brooks' Hysterical Musical YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Is Alive In Simi Valley

It's ALIVE!!! A hilarious, high energy Broadway musical based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. A Tony award-winner in 2008, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is just what the doctor ordered - a real prescription for outlandish humor, now onstage at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center.
