American Soprano Karen Slack joins concert pianist Reed Tetzloff for a celebration of Art Song and African American music. Performances of the new program will take place on February 18th at 7:00PM in The Revelation Gallery at St. John's in the Village in New York City, and on February 23rd at 3:00PM at Jacobs Music in Trenton, New Jersey. The program will include the art songs by Schubert, R. Strauss, Turina, Ravel, H.L. Adams, H.T. Burleigh and U.S. Moore; and spirituals arranged by M. Hogan.

National Geographic, with Fox 21 Studios and Imagine Television Studios, announced today that Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated musician Raphael Saadiq has been tapped to serve as executive music producer on GENIUS: ARETHA. Saadiq is responsible for producing, arranging and recording all of the original song elements within the series featuring live performances. The score will be written and produced by multi-Grammy Award-winner and Academy Award nominee Terence Blanchard ('Harriet,' 'BlacKkKlansman').

Preeminent gospel artist Yolanda Adams, The New York Times' critic-at-large Wesley Morris, and singer Valerie June are confirmed as part of the LA Phil's Power to the People! festival. Adams will perform with the LA Phil, led by Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, as well as West Angeles Church of God in Christ Choir, at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Sunday, March 8, at 2pm. Morris, one of the most compelling cultural critics of our time, will speak at the California African American Museum, Tuesday, March 10, at 7pm. Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist June will perform along with Terence Blanchard and Ben Harper in an evening dedicated to the exploration of Spike Lee's movie music at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Saturday, March 14, at 8pm.

Ilana Harris-Babou (2009 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts) and Mateo Nava (2013 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts & U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts) are the recipients of National YoungArts Foundation's Jorge M. Pérez Award. The winners were selected by Jorge M. Pérez, patriarch of the Pérez family and founder of leading development firm The Related Group, and Patricia García-Vélez Hanna, Art Director for The Related Group. American Soprano Karen Slack returns to The Metropolitan Opera as Serena in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess on February 12th and 15th. Audiences will remember Slack from her Met Opera and international radio broadcast debuts in the title role of Verdi's Luisa Miller. Highly regarded for her 'extraordinary vocal agility and a powerful instrument with a wide range of colors,' Karen's 2019-2020 performances showcase the breadth of her artistic strengths, including the role of Billie the world premiere of Fire Shut Up In My Bones by Terence Blanchard with Opera Theatre Saint Louis, a production which The New York Times called one of the most noteworthy classical music events of the year. She also returned to The Philadelphia Orchestra this year to sing Eternal Mother in the world premiere of Hannibal Lokumbe's Healing Tones, conducted by maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
