“Crowns” is a feel-good musical about hats. But it's also so much more than hats, in the way “The Vagina Monologues” is about more than just the female anatomy. Now performing at the Taproot Theatre, “Crowns” delights in this colorful production about history, experience, and culture.
Sculptural painter Francesca Bifulco is proud to present a sneak peek of her multifaceted installation, Forcella Reigns: The Men Who Play Cards, for just three nights - today, April 27 through Sunday, April 29, 2018 - at North Hollywood's ZJU Theatre Group. Bound for Naples, Italy, this hybrid, site-specific, theatrical presentation/art installation is the culmination of a 3-year anthropological study in Forcella, a tough and degraded neighborhood in Naples. There, Bifulco bonded with a group of men who play cards on a corner staircase, Gradini Forcella; unwitting actors in an improvised show put on every day without fail. This preview presents the elements of the installation coexisting with each other in one single location - a black box theatre - where the viewer can experience the work through a temporal narrative and reoccurring imagery. Before its official unveiling in Naples, Bifulco will share Forcella Reigns' test run with Los Angeles audiences. The artist will be present for the duration of the exhibit-turned-installation (15 hours). Admission is free for all; there is no age limit. ZJU Theatre Group is located at 4850 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601. For more information please visit http://www.francescabifulco.com.

It's Episode #79 and we are seizing the day and sitting down with Tony Award winning Lighting Designer Jeff Croiter. Jeff has a wide ranging career and we're talking about all sorts of projects.
Cory and Jeff discuss his recent design of the Big Apple Circus and how one goes about lighting jugglers, horses and the Flying Wallendas as well as his new relationship with Penn & Teller and what goes into lighting two of the most famous magicians in the world. He also discusses the prominent role lighting played in "Bandstand" and how he got 75 old fresnels to change color all night long and of course we're talking about the genesis of his design for "Peter and the Starcatcher" and how it has become a genre of design in itself.
For over 40 years Penn & Teller have defied labels-and at times physics and good taste - by redefining the genre of magic and inventing their own very distinct niche in comedy.
Today, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts announced two new performances in the Kauffman Center Presents series. Comedy-magic duo Penn & Teller will close out the 2017-2018 Kauffman Center Presents season on June 22. Country musicians Lee Greenwood and Dailey & Vincent will open the 2018-2019 series with a double-headliner concert on July 1.
